🎉 👏 Burnham has finally admitted that Brexit helped cause Britain’s decade of low growth. Good. But diagnosis without treatment is political theatre. You can’t rebuild 🇬🇧 industry while maintaining barriers to our largest market. Scrap the red lines, rejoin the single market and give the country a genuine growth strategy. There is still a gulf between diagnosis and delivery. Andy Burnham names Brexit as a cause of stagnation without yet committing to the single market or customs union. He promises public control without explaining ownership, financing or how profits will be prevented from leaking back to private investors. So this is considerably better than continuity Starmer but it remains a prospectus. The October Budget will reveal whether Burnham genuinely intends to rewire the economy or merely describe its failures more honestly.

🚨 WATCH TO THE END First, Kevin Maguire, Piers Morgan and Andrew Pierce debate Patrick Minford’s Brexit economics on Good Morning Britain Then Minford, one of very few economists who backed Brexit, gives evidence in Parliament and predicts that leaving the EU will mostly eliminate British manufacturing. So no, Brexit hasn’t been implemented badly. Brexit is doing what its leading economic advocate anticipated and accepted. Brexit was the worming tablet I give my dogs, disguised in tasty ham. The ham was sovereignty, patriotism and £350 million for the NHS. Hidden inside was Minford’s economic model: deindustrialisation, weakened farming and food standards, deregulation and capture by global capital. Britain swallowed the sales pitch and now we have to try and survive the side effects.

The FSA is telling pregnant women, children under five, over-65s and vulnerable people not to eat runny eggs when eating out. Why? Bcunusually large and rapidly increasing Salmonella outbreak which investigators say may be linked to imported eggs used in restaurants and catering. One person dead. 207 confirmed cases. 38% hospitalised. Meanwhile the FSA says there is no evidence UK-produced eggs are affected. Britain spent decades building one of the safest egg systems in the world. Now thanks to Brexit freedoms vulnerable people are effectively being told: British Lion eggs at home are safe but be careful ordering a runny egg in a British restaurant because you may not know where that egg came from. How on earth is that progress? Food standards are not red tape. Border controls are not bureaucracy. Food security includes food safety.

🚨 🚨 Ten years after Brexit, Sir Anthony Seldon concedes the recognised economic estimates: 📉 Investment: 12–18% lower 📉 Productivity: 3–4% lower 📉 GDP per person: 6–8% lower Immigration soared, sovereignty failed to deliver control and Britain lost a decade that should have been spent governing. BUT we are told reversing this national failure would be terrible because it might cause more arguments. That is not putting Britain first, it’s ignoring the increasing majority who want to reconnect with the EU.

🚨 So Nigel Farage hopes to win a by election in Clacton and escape scrutiny. Apparently the standards investigation does not automatically die. According to paragraph 40 of the Procedural Protocol to the MPs’ Code of Conduct: • The investigation would be suspended while he is no longer an MP. • If he wins the by-election and returns to Parliament, the investigation resumes. • Even if he loses, it could still be resumed. • The by-election result might influence any eventual sanction or rectification. This means a “chicken run” is not a clean escape. The donor scrutiny (Harborne £5m + Cottrell benefits) could still hang over him if he returns.

🚨 BOOKMARK THIS clip for the next time someone tells you “Brexit was never properly implemented”. Nigel Farage on Question Time in 2016 explaining what Brexit would actually mean. End EU free movement. ✅ Britain controls who comes here. ✅ Australian-style immigration system. ✅ Open Britain to people from the Commonwealth and elsewhere rather than preferential EU migration. ✅ He said this would relieve pressure on GPs, schools and housing and improve our quality of life. Brexit happened. Those immigration powers came back to Westminster. Migration subsequently shifted dramatically from Europe towards the rest of the world. You can’t simultaneously claim Brexit wasn’t implemented and complain about the consequences of the immigration system Brexit enabled. 👀 The question isn’t whether Brexit was implemented. It’s whether what Farage promised Brexit would achieve actually worked.

🇬🇧 There was something deeply ironic about the final moments of #BBCLauraK today. 🇬🇧 Britain broke from Europe with Brexit, a rupture with strange historical echoes of Henry VIII’s break with Rome. And today, the Catholic Archbishop of Westminster reminded us of “the value of the human person”. Of humanity. Families. The homeless. Our responsibility to each other. I am not a Catholic, but I went to a convent school until I was 13. I was educated in these values, they are familiar to me and comforting and above all grounding. And now Britain is about to have its first Catholic PM Andy Burnham In the last decade or so, we have lost sight of some of the most basic truths 👉Geography. Humanity. Honesty. Values. 🔥 Brexit taught us to deny our geography. 🔥 Populism taught us to divide people. 🔥 UK decided to live with dishonesty and lost sight of the value of the human person. My hopes now rest on Andy Burnham bringing those values back to government and Britain back to its rightful place in Europe and the world. People first. Place first. Humanity first. This is the change of direction Britain and Europe desperately needs.

‼️ Reports of Starmer’s anger - threatening to resign his own seat to create chaos for a Burnham suggests a mix of arrogance (refusing to accept the writing on the wall) and vindictiveness (wanting to damage the party or successor rather than facilitate a smooth transition). It’s not the behaviour of someone putting country or party first at a moment of crisis. It risks making the exit even messier and further damaging Labour’s reputation. The country needs a clean, orderly transition. Andy Burnham has the mandate from Makerfield to deliver real change. No more drama. Time to move forward for the country.

🚨 “The British public is susceptible to imported eggs which are mostly used in the hospitality industry.” Food safety expert Sterling Crew on Times Radio explaining why the British Lion mark matters. This is the problem. In a supermarket you can look for the Lion and choose British eggs. In a café, restaurant, hotel, sandwich, cake or ready meal 👉do you know where the egg came from or how the laying hen was kept? Price drives procurement. The customer often has no idea. After Brexit opened Britain to greater competition from imported food produced to different standards, country-of-origin and production-method labelling in hospitality matters more than ever. If British farmers are expected to meet high standards, consumers should at least be told when the food they’re eating doesn’t.
