PAPAL IN-FLIGHT PRESSER: Pope Leo defended the many speeches he gave regarding the sanctity of life in France this wknd. His addresses were in juxtaposition with recently enacted anti-life legislation. “When I went to France, I went primarily to preach the Gospel, to preach the Good News, to reaffirm what Jesus Christ Himself says when He says I am the way, the truth, and the life, so to speak the truth that Jesus offers us. “The defence of life is something that as you all know the Church teaches, believes very deeply. “And so, on the one hand obviously knowing that in France the law was recently approved –– in other countries in Europe as well as other parts of the world there is a lot of debating going on about the questions of end-of-life issues –– but being in a place especially like Lourdes where people are searching for something much deeper and understanding that their lives, even in the midst of sickness or disability or pain of different kinds, that their life has meaning. “The Church, because of Jesus Himself, wants to be close to those people and to affirm the values that life itself I think holds for all of us. “I would say, if that's politics, I did that, but it was not to get involved in French politics. It was to teach what the Church really believes.”

The final exchange between Pope Leo & Emmanuel Macron tonight, as Leo returns to Rome. They also had a private mtg just before this farewell ceremony, delaying the departure somewhat Leo repeatedly pushed back against euthanasia during this trip, after Macron's gov't legalised it in the summer

Pope Leo made a private visit to the Grotto at Lourdes this evening. Full video attached. After praying silently, he led the immense crowds in reciting the prayer below. He then offered a golden rose to the statue, the gift reserved exclusively to Popes. Leo will stay in Lourdes until Monday morning. The prayer as released by the Vatican –– “Our Lady of Lourdes, the Immaculate Conception, in this blessed place you spoke with such gentleness and tenderness to Saint Bernadette, a humble daughter of the French people, to convey to the world a radiant message of prayer, conversion and hope. We turn to you with trust, for you are the Mother whom Jesus has given, and you are attentive to all our needs. We pray to you, our Mother, for France, for you are her Patroness and have protected her for so many centuries. Grant its people the gift of fraternal harmony, so that they may build a harmonious society that banishes all violence and hatred, and allows everyone to work, to start a family and to live life to the fullest in peace and serenity. May the most disadvantaged and the poorest always be supported. Obtain for France wise and generous leaders, ready to make sacrifices, capable of responding to challenges, and eager to serve the common good.
