Today, five men have been sentenced to a total of 12 and a half years in prison for large-scale ticket fraud, following an extensive Merseyside Police investigation. The men were sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court today, after pleading guilty to the charges. Buying from unofficial sources risks losing money and being denied entry." LFC added: "We have zero tolerance for ticket misuse. 🗣️ "We simply will not tolerate people risking the safety of others and themselves by riding electric bikes at speed on our roads and pavements" Yesterday, proactive Roads Policing patrols on Stonebridge Lane saw a vehicle appearing to be exceeding 40mph at about 5pm, but when officers engaged with the rider he rode away. The suspect narrowly missed a pedestrian and was pursued around a nearby housing estate. He rode on pavements and pulled into the path of a car that had to brake suddenly before losing control of the bike and falling off. As the suspect tried to get back on the bike, the officers carefully drove their vehicle onto the bike’s back wheel and detained the rider. A 19-year-old man from Old Swan was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, drug driving, failing to stop, driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence and using a motor vehicle without third party insurance. He has been released under investigation. Last night at around 11:30pm our officers spotted a group of males in the city centre, who were all wearing balaclavas and dark clothing, riding e-bikes and doing wheelies along the road. They all tried to evade us, but unlucky for them, we carried out an effective tactical response and caught them all quickly after. One rider was caught and arrested on Renshaw Street, which you can see in this video, and a second rider, and his passenger were arrested near Rodney Street. A knife was found at the scene and one of the males was in possession of £5,000. A subsequent search of a property linked to one of the suspects led to the discovery of an additional £3,000 in cash as well as cannabis. This work is all part of Operation Gears, which is our ongoing commitment to tackling dangerous, illegal and anti-social vehicle use across the region, making communities safer for residents, businesses and road users. Today, Stephen Bates has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 18 years after being found guilty of murdering Martin O’Donovan in April. On a night where Martin’s family were celebrating his mother’s 70th birthday, Bates was heavily intoxicated, and people intervened to prevent him from driving. Bates returned to the scene in his car, using it as a weapon to fatally injure 47-year-old Martin who was sitting outside the house. Martin was seriously injured after the car was driven at him on Stonyhurst Road. Emergency services attended the scene, and Martin was taken to hospital, but he sadly died from his injuries. The video footage shows Bates, 42, of Herondale Road, Mossley Hill, in his car moments before he murdered Martin, his 999 call to the police and his arrest. Following Bates’ sentencing, we are issuing the following words from Martin’s family, who describe him as a “kind, intelligent, generous and deeply loved man” ❤️ "Martin was a kind, intelligent, generous and deeply loved man. A brother, son, uncle and friend whose warmth, humour and integrity touched everyone around him. His absence has left a hole in our lives that will never be filled. "The actions that took Martin from us were deliberate, senseless and cruel. Throughout this process, we have seen no sign of remorse from the defendant. No acknowledgment of the suffering caused or the life taken, and lives destroyed. That absence of humanity has compounded our grief and made this ordeal even harder to bear. "While today’s outcome brings a measure of accountability, it cannot bring justice in any true sense. There is no sentence long enough, no words strong enough, to balance the loss of Martin. We will carry his memory with us always, and our focus now is on honouring the life he lived rather than the manner in which it was taken. On Monday 26 May, thousands of people lined the streets to celebrate the Liverpool FC parade. What should have been a day of celebration for the city turned into a day of fear and anguish after Paul Doyle drove his car into a crowd, injuring more than 100 people. It is only by sheer luck that nobody was killed as a result of Doyle’s reckless actions. This video shows Doyle’s aggressive and dangerous driving before he reached Water Street, audio from his dashcam, and footage of his arrest. This has been one of the most extensive investigations in the history of the force. Over the past seven months, we have supported 134 victims, spoken to more than 1,500 witnesses, and gathered in excess of 700 statements. In the initial stages, more than 70 officers and staff were dedicated to this investigation, including colleagues from across Merseyside Police and neighbouring forces - Greater Manchester Police, Cumbria Police, Lancashire Police, Cheshire Police, and North Wales Police. We are extremely grateful for their support and collaboration. Today, Doyle has been sentenced to 21-and-a-half years in prison at Liverpool Crown Court, after pleading guilty to 31 offences on Wednesday 26 November. We know that a lot of people are still recovering from the injuries they suffered on that day and our thoughts remain with them and those that continue to be affected by the incident ❤️

They were all found during a warrant in Birkenhead carried out as part of Operation Vanguard on Thursday 23 July. A total of 66 people were arrested and weapons, cash, drugs and stolen property seized after 45 warrants were executed across Merseyside as part of the third Operation Vanguard carried out by the force. More than 300 police officers were deployed in Liverpool, St Helens, Knowsley, Sefton and Wirral conducting early morning warrants, roadside checks, land searches and more in a sustained and relentless offensive against criminals operating in our local communities. A 43-year-old man from Birkenhead and 24-year-old woman from Leasowe were arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods, acquiring/using/possessing criminal property, possession of a Class A controlled drug (cocaine) and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. They have been bailed while enquiries continue. 🚲 Our officers have checked each bike against those already reported stolen in the force and now we are appealing for the public’s help. If you believe any of the bikes pictured belong to you or someone you know, please contact us and we will ensure they are returned. Paul Desmond Sanders Doyle, 53 years, of Burghill Road, West Derby has this afternoon been charged with two counts of unlawful and malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm; two counts of causing unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm; two counts of attempted unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, all contrary to Section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861. He has been charged with one count of dangerous driving contrary to Section 2 of the Road Traffic Act 1988. Doyle has been remanded into custody and will appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court in the morning. This continues to be a large and complex investigation and detectives are reviewing a huge volume of CCTV and mobile phone footage submitted by the public and businesses, as well as footage from our own body worn cameras and dashcams.
