🇬🇭 Chairman Wontumi, and his lawyers appeared before the Accra High Court in a case concerning activities in the Numre Forest Reserve. During the proceedings, his lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, pointed out that most of the documents provided by the Attorney-General’s Department were unreadable. The court directed the prosecution to furnish clearer and more legible copies to the defense, and the case has been adjourned to 16th March 2026 for further proceedings.

The decision in this case is based on the existence of an unlawful assembly and the principle of vicarious liability. To this day, we do not know who killed Ankit Sharma. It is indeed very unfortunate that the family will never have the solace of knowing who stabbed their son or who, in that mob, attacked him. However, five people have been convicted on the basis that they were present at the spot, and the prosecution has established their presence. Our case is that their presence has not been proved, and it is on this basis that we will file an appeal, proceedings for which are already underway before the High Court. We will challenge the verdict. Our clients are innocent.”

Further escalation, including the involvement of the British government, reflects a dangerous disregard for international law.
