Nobody is the average. You are not the average, I am not the average... yet most of our scientific approach to health/disease is a science of averages that says little about you as a person. I understand people's frustration. We need a new way of doing science that serves each of us. We are all agents in building a healthier, more compassionate, sustainable future. I feel inspired to help build that future. Exciting times ahead! More about current initiatives in partnership with @msahsorin and our growing team here:

Walking along a single hair strand shows the sudden greying (over a few days), and subsequent full regain of pigmentation The white segment corresponded to "the most stressful two months of my life" for this participant The first *quantitative* evidence of a link between stress and hair greying in humans There also was a change in the proteome of that hair between the "youthful" dark and "aged" white segments: MORE mitochondrial proteins in the white segment, suggesting metabolic recalibrations linked to the high stress period

Energy metabolism is really quite remarkable Little bits of energy we call metabolites flow continuously, converging in our mitochondria (TCA or Krebs cycle) where they are re-routed and directed where needed The basis of life and health is the flow of energy Great animation showing the fate, trajectory, and possible routes that glucose (top) and glutamine (bottom right) take within most of our cells Video by Janet Iwasa
