A 34-year-old man is receiving treatment at Katima Mulilo State Hospital after surviving a lion attack in the Kasika area, Kabbe South constituency, on Thursday. Nsundano Libuku, a local fisherman, said he was herding his grandfather's cattle towards a stream with two friends when they noticed the cattle suddenly dispersing. Upon closer inspection, he reported, they discovered a calf they suspected had been killed by a lion. Moments later, he heard the lion roar and saw it immediately pounce on him. He responded by stabbing the animal on its forehead with his spear. During the struggle, he was injured on his left hand, right cheek, neck, and the left side of his head and ear. He added that the animal loosened from the spear and instantly ran off. Nsundano said they only noticed the presence of a second lion after the first one fled. He also said his two friends could not assist because they had no weapons to defend themselves or him. He was treated by officials from the Nakabolelwa Conservancy before being taken to Kasika Clinic, then transported to Katima Mulilo by ambulance. Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism officials confirmed they had received the incident report and would respond in due course. What started as a small online rant between Namibia and Nigeria quickly escalated into a full-blown cyber clash between the two nations. Motorists in Windhoek were left stunned after a group of Angolan street vendors were seen bathing and washing their clothes in public following a burst water pipe near the circle intersection opposite Hartlief and Meatco. According to Linda Katyoka, one of the individuals at the scene, the group noticed water leaking from the damaged pipe and used the opportunity to bathe and wash their clothes. “We did not know that we were not allowed to bathe there. Where we stay, we do not have water and do not get the opportunity to bathe,” Katyoka explained to the NBC team. A pensioner from the Omutse-Gwondjamba village in the Omuthiya Constituency of the Oshikoto Region, Sacky Namgongo, is calling on Namibians, particularly the youth, to engage in pearl millet (mahangu) production as a means of fighting hunger and poverty while contributing to national food security. Namgongo, who has been cultivating mahangu for more than 20 years, says his field has remained a reliable source of income and has never disappointed him. His dedication and success in pearl millet production have earned him several accolades from the Namibian Agronomic Board. In 2025, he received a certificate as the Emerging Pearl Millet Producer of the Year. In 2024, he was honoured as the Outstanding Pearl Millet Producer of the Year in Oshikoto, and in 2017, he was crowned the Oshikoto Regional Mahangu Champion of the Year. Last year, Namgongo harvested 35 tonnes of mahangu, and this year he anticipates a yield of 45 tonnes. The produce serves as his main source of income, as he sells pearl millet to individuals as well as to the Agricultural Marketing and Trade Agency (AMTA). In addition, he donates part of his harvest to vulnerable members of the community, particularly elderly people who are unable to cultivate their fields. Namgongo believes that Namibians can free themselves from poverty through hard work and increased food production, thereby reducing the country's dependence on imported food. During Tuesday’s parliamentary debates, Affirmative Repositioning (AR) MP Fredrick Shitana raised concerns about the design of the new Namibia Dollar notes, specifically the absence of a young springbok. Shitana said that, while the note features male and female springboks, symbolising the first generation, the young springbok is missing, leading him to conclude that the younger generation is not represented. “The young ones were removed from this. The young generation is no longer represented on this note. What happened? Was it stolen, or was it burnt in Etosha?” he asked. In response, Minister of Finance Ericah Shafudah acknowledged Shitana’s attention to financial developments and said that the current number of animals on the note is acceptable as long as the note remains secure and safe. Some taxi drivers in Windhoek staged a demonstration today at the Ministry of Works and Transport, raising concerns about the operations of e-hailing services such as Yango, InDrive, and LEFA, among others. The drivers allege that these services are operating without proper regulation, often charging lower fares than traditional taxis and, in some cases, doing so without valid permits. They say this is hurting their business and threatening their livelihoods. The petition was received by the Minister of Works and Transport, Veiko Nekundi, who assured the drivers that the ministry is taking their concerns seriously and will work to address the issues raised. #NBCNews #nbcdigitalnews #nbcDSTV282 #nbcGOtv20 #nbcPlusApp

Namibia will not bend its laws for foreign investors, Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare told parliament, defending the rejection of a proposed satellite internet licence. Dr. Ngurare was responding to opposition leader McHenry Venaani, who questioned the government’s handling of the decision, including the lack of a formal statement, the consistency of the 51% local ownership requirement and the impact on investor confidence. In response, Dr. Ngurare said the government would not create special rules based on the profile of an investor, stressing that all must comply with Namibia’s laws. He warned that making exceptions could set a precedent and undermine national principles. He also dismissed concerns about external pressure, saying Namibia must act in its own interest. He added that the government has programmes in place to extend internet access to rural communities as an alternative. Serafia Nadunya #NBCNews #nbcdigitalnews #nbcDSTV282 #nbcGOtv20 #nbcPlusApp
