Today they mourned their colleagues. An hour later, as Israeli raids continued to pound around them, the Nabatieh ambulance service still took time to prepare meals to distribute to the few families remaining in Nabatieh. As I write this, another raid. A car carrying a wounded man, heavily bleeding from the head, rushed to the hospital. Reports of 5-6 injured people. Civil defense crews rushed to the site of the strike. It’s only 2:30… the work continues.

We saw it in 2000, 2006, 2024, and we’re seeing it now. Tens of thousands of people returning to south Lebanon on the first day of a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. Israeli troops still occupy parts of the south. Israeli leaders say they still haven’t “finished the job.” The Lebanese state still weak. And Hezbollah still armed & refusing to return to 2024 ceasefire status quo. Direct talks with the Lebanese and Israeli governments set to begin soon. “What happens next” is tomorrow’s question. For today people are just happy to be going home
