It's been four years since the Supreme Court's Dobbs decision opened the door to state abortion bans. Now, a new study finds those bans are hurting women who aren't seeking abortions at all. Researchers found delays in miscarriage treatment increase the risk to a woman’s health and fertility and prolong the grief of a lost pregnancy. Sarah Varney has more.

The State Department said it takes "full responsibility" for "hastily" altering and then presenting a map of Africa at a global AIDS conference that mislabeled every single country it highlighted. An analysis by Reuters found a watermark in the map image that suggests it was made with OpenAI.

Billionaire Elon Musk gave what appeared to be a fascist salute Monday while making a speech at the post-inauguration celebration for President Donald Trump at the Capital One Arena. “Some elections are important, some are not. But this one, this one really mattered and I just want to say thank you for making it happen,” Musk said before putting his hand on his chest and then raising it in a salute that appeared similar to the “Sieg Heil” used by Nazis at their victory rallies. “It is thanks to you that the future of civilization is assured," Musk said. Trump named Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the "Department of Government Efficiency," an outside commission aimed at identifying federal programs and spending to cut. After Trump was sworn in, multiple lawsuits were filed against the Trump administration claiming that the move violates federal transparency laws.

Video taken on June 8 and 9 from atop the Washington Monument shows people gathering on the National Mall shortly before a large anti-Trump message appeared in dead or discolored grass there. Seen from above, the faint outline of the numbers "86 47" can be seen; "86" is slang for removing or getting rid of something, and Trump is the 47th president. The Interior Department says it is investigating. The same number sequence, "86 47," spelled out in seashells was part of an image that former FBI Director James Comey once shared on social media. He's been charged with making threats against the president, which he denies. Footage via EarthCam

The FCC voted Thursday to eliminate a cap on the size and reach of TV broadcasting companies. In a 2-1 vote, the FCC repealed a 22-year-old rule holding that a company cannot own stations that reach more than a combined 39% of the U.S. television audience. The ownership limit will be replaced by a case-by-case approach. The move was widely expected, with FCC Chairman Brendan Carr writing an op-ed last month that called the earlier policy "outdated." But critics say it opens the door to mass consolidation in the industry, giving larger players more say over what viewers see.

The same mRNA technology that made the COVID-19 vaccine possible will soon be used in flu vaccines for older Americans. The FDA has approved a new shot from Moderna — called "mFlusiva" — for adults ages 50 to 64. The company is also seeking full approval for adults 65 and older. Compared to traditional shots, mRNA vaccines are quicker to manufacture — and experts say that could help protect against future strains of influenza as they emerge. The FDA had initially refused to consider Moderna's application amid the Trump administration's heightened scrutiny of vaccines.

President Donald Trump signed executive orders Thursday afternoon targeting birthright citizenship, about a month after the Supreme Court rejected his bid to limit the practice. Trump announced the orders in the Oval Office, with adviser Stephen Miller looking on, who is a longtime critic of birthright citizenship. The two orders would expand the list of those considered ineligible for birthright citizenship and ban the practice of so-called "birth tourism." The White House expressed confidence that the new orders would be able to pass any potential legal challenges.

After Graham Platner ended his campaign, activists launched an effort to claw back campaign donations, ensuring donors' money wouldn’t be used to cover any legal fees related to Platner’s alleged misconduct. The group behind the effort, Reckoning Action, says it's trying to keep campaign cash out of what it calls "the hands of predators." The group is working with a bipartisan group of lawmakers to create a federal ban on campaigns using legal fees for sexual misconduct investigations. Liz Landers speaks to Reckoning Action’s founder, Cheyenne Hunt for more.

Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell says he's been discharged from a rehabilitation center, where he's been recovering from a fall in mid-June. In a statement, the 84-year-old said he's heading home and would "continue to engage with my staff and colleagues on important Senate business" — though he did not provide a timeline on returning to the Senate. McConnell's extended absence from Washington has led to calls for transparency about his health status. Sen. John Cornyn told reporters Tuesday following the Senate Judiciary Committee's vote to advance Todd Blanche's attorney general nomination that “there's nothing we could do” to rein in President Donald Trump. “Well, there's nothing we could do to rein in the president when he said he likes the fund and he wishes it still exists. But the fact of the matter [is] it's dead, and that's all we could do under these circumstances,” Cornyn, R-Texas, said. Cornyn, along with Sen. Thom Tillis, R-NC, agreed to support the nomination after Blanche put in writing that the DOJ is scrapping a $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund that could have provided settlements to President Donald Trump's allies, including Jan. 6 rioters. The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 12-10, along party lines, on Tuesday to advance Blanche to a full Senate vote.

A massive Russian missile attack killed nearly two dozen people in Ukraine overnight. Such strikes have become almost routine this summer, as Moscow looks to exploit a critical air defense shortage in Ukraine. The shortage is of the U.S.-made Patriot interceptor, which is the only air defense weapon capable of shooting down a Russian ballistic missile. Stephanie Sy reports.
