The speed and shocking agility with which this East Siberian brown bear 🐻 in Khakassia, Russia 🇷🇺 swims and climbs a steep hill demonstrates that you always need to remember you’re in its home (not the other way around) and remain alert. (The bear looks black out of the water, but it has a characteristic brown bear hump and a pointed nose.)

Why do some in the West obsess over “returning” Russia's Kaliningrad to Germany, or the Baltics, while ignoring who actually flattened it in 1944? British RAF raids destroyed the historic center of Königsberg months before Soviet forces took the city. Yet the narrative is always “evil Russia stole it.” The real story is more complicated and worth investigating.

Hear me out. MASHA AND THE BEAR, but little Masha is *also* a bear, like this Masha:

“We had doubts [about the pre-approved Ukraine peace agreements pre-delivered by the U.S. side before the summit], but we thought about it and agreed. Not right away, but ultimately.” - Lavrov about the failure of the Anchorage process. If you strip away the diplomatic language, you can easily see that the Russian side believes that there is no one to negotiate with in good faith in the West (in the case of the EU, it's spelled out more explicitly).

Japan’s Kishida talking about the danger of Russia repeating a nuclear weapons catastrophe while standing in the US Congress, the only country to use nukes—ON JAPAN—has got to be the highest level of gaslighting, self-deceit, and lackeyism all at once.

A Ukrainian 🇺🇦 singer performing for a small audience invited a child on stage to “sing a song” (presumably in Ukrainian). The girl SHOCKED the audience when she began to sing the Russian 🇷🇺 hit Sigma Boy in the Russian language. Now certain “patriotic Ukrainians” are calling for harming the girl, the audience members who were clapping, and the not-so-well-known singer himself (even though he was speaking Ukrainian, and this was unplanned). I suppose this is why some called for banning this song in the EU a while back. Small incidents like this are very revealing of everything from the thin layer of civilization that separates humans from beasts to the power of culture and language.

Woman encounters a polar bear 🐻❄️ swimming past her boat in Chukotka, Russia. Lucky for her, it must’ve dined on a tourist boat encountered earlier and wasn’t that hungry. 😉 Amazing footage, but stupid decision-making of coming so close to this glorious beast!

Disney this, Disney that. 🥱 Soviet animation produced many superb films, like the 1957 SNOW QUEEN by Soyuzmultfilm. ❄️ Did you know that it was THIS film that inspired Hayao Miyazaki? “Had I not one day seen The Snow Queen during a film screening hosted by the company labor union, I honestly doubt that I would have continued working as an animator,” Miyazaki later revealed. He called The Snow Queen “my destiny and my favorite film.” The film, directed by Lev Atamanov, is over an hour long and stylistically contains both realistic and fantastical features. It is based on the 1844 fable "The Snow Queen" penned by Hans Christian Andersen and is one of the earliest film adaptations of this Danish story. This classic masterpiece was released in several languages. In the U.S., it was first made available by Universal. Ghibli Museum Library later released it in Japan.
