This is exactly why I get on Rafael Devers. Leading off the 7th, down 1-0, he pops one up and stands at home plate watching it. The ball drops, and if he hustles out of the box, he’s standing on second base. Even Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow called him out for it. Yes, Devers can hit. But being a complete winning ballplayer is about more than hitting. It’s effort, awareness and doing the little things when every run matters. That’s not winning baseball.

Batting average can lie. Just look at Luis Arraez. Yes, he can hit .300 and win batting titles. But his on-base percentage should be much higher than it is and there’s a reason why. He chases. Arraez refuses to walk. He swings at pitches out of the zone, even in key moments when his team desperately needs base runners. In this video I’m showing two back-to-back pitches where he swings at ball four. That cannot happen from a guy whose value is supposed to be getting on base. This is what I call a soft .300. The batting average looks great, but the impact is limited. He doesn’t drive the ball with authority. Low exit velocity. A lot of soft contact. And because he won’t take walks, he leaves OBP on the table. Imagine if he added discipline. If he simply took what pitchers give him, his OBP jumps and now you’re talking about a completely different level of player. Instead, you get a hitter who racks up singles in hot streaks but doesn’t maximize his value. High average. Low leverage. That’s the difference.

I have been critical of Rafael Devers all year, constantly saying he is just not the true difference-maker this front office thinks he is, and today's game against the Brewers gave us the perfect example of it. Bottom of the 5th, two outs, a runner standing on second base with a righty on the mound, an open first base, and a light-hitting Jung Hoo Lee waiting on deck. In a tight, one-run game, if Devers was truly the "feared" superstar the Giants are paying him to be, the Brewers dugout would have immediately held up four fingers. They would have happily put him on first base via an intentional walk rather than risk giving up a long ball, preferring to take their chances with JHL. Instead, Milwaukee didn't blink. They went right after him. In fact, they practically had him struck out on one pitch, but the catcher couldn't hold onto the foul tip. Even though the 12-pitch battle eventually resulted in a walk, the strategy spoke volumes: the Brewers simply do not fear him. If this were a proven elite superstar like Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani, Juan Soto, Yordan Alvarez, or José Ramírez, they get a free pass to first base 10 times out of 10 in that exact scenario. But opposing teams treat Devers like just another guy in the lineup because he lacks that elite gravity. To prove the point, JHL came up right after the walk and weakly grounded out to end the inning. The video proves exactly what I've been saying all season: the aura just isn't there, and opposing managers know it.

Bryce Eldridge is 21 years old, and teams already pitch around him with the bases loaded. Down 2-1, he challenges a low strike call and wins. Works the count to 3-1, fouls off a pitch, then never sees another strike. Ball four. That’s not just plate discipline. That’s respect. Elite strike-zone awareness. Elite maturity. And a growing reputation as one of the most clutch young hitters in baseball. The Giants have something special.

This is why you start the rebuild & trade off players like Webb & Devers to acquire more assets to build around and with Eldridge. Rebuilds are actually exciting! Let’s Go! If the Giants do this right 2028 & beyond are going to be fun to watch!

The Giants broadcast acted like the umpire cost the Giants a run because the runner “should’ve been out” at second. The problem? Replay showed he got his hand back on the bag before Adames tagged him. The call was right. Yet there was no correction after all the complaining. That’s not analysis, that’s homerism.

Hate to keep focusing on the negative but I have to point out to the casuals one of the many reasons why the Giants are not a good team. Look at the difference between the Dbacks & the Giants on basically the same play. One team hustles & puts pressure on the defense & forces an error which leads to the tying run the other team gives about a 75% effort. Remember this video? “We love you guys. We promise we’ll be playing a lot longer next year.” Instead, the Giants are 17 games under .500 and headed home even earlier. I can’t wait to hear this year’s message to the fans. I’m sure it’ll be full of appreciation, optimism, and promises… again. The sad part is, too many fans will applaud it, keep filling Oracle Park, and ownership will have no reason to believe anything needs to change. But hey… the casuals will be there. They always are.

9 minutes of drills (Great background music)with balls hit to the right side & Pitchers covering 1B. Tony Vitello hitting the balls. (Love seeing his involvement in the details) Ron Washington coaching up Eldridge & Devers. Another coach shouting out the time it took to record out. You can hear him shout out 3.6. The average runner from Home to 1B is 4.2-4.3 seconds.

For a guy who’s out of options & in on the fence of making the team is this the kind of effort you want on the roster? Jerar Encarnación just flat out showed no hustle or character on this play. It was very close to being a foul ball but to stand at home plate & not run when you’re fighting for a roster spot doesn’t settle well me. But more importantly how does it settle with Tony V and Buster when you’re trying to change the culture? For me this is a deal breaker for a guy that’s older and less talented than other guys fighting for a job.

Selfish baseball shows up right here. Willy Adames sparks it with a leadoff hit. Manny Machado is playing WAY off the line — practically inviting a bunt. Rafael Devers ignores it… Double play. A team that can’t score runs just passed on a free baserunner. Brutal.

You’re a Catcher. What are you looking for & why are you in disbelief at this call. If Bailey is back as the starting Catcher in 2026 this team will be exactly the same a .500 team. Move off of him and Chapman please! Two guys who are great defensive players & awful offensively!

Rafael Devers (Nevers) Never makes contact. He constantly misses pitches down the middle. His K rate is now 31.7% 27 K’s in 85 PA. Combined with last year’s 29.3% K rate with SF he has been absolutely awful with SF. You can live with the K’s if he’s hitting close to his career BA of .275 but he hit .236 last year with SF & is currently hitting only .213. If he doesn’t produce closer to his career numbers, the Giants season is likely to be a very long one. If his performance continues like this into July the Giants should do whatever it takes to trade him. (Pay 1/2 his salary & get some top prospects before he loses too much value.

The hometown scorekeeper absolutely bailed out Matt Chapman on that play. That should have been ruled a throwing error, no question, but instead it’s scored as a hit—and now Adrian Houser is the one who pays for it. If that runner had scored, it would’ve gone down as an earned run, which is completely unfair given the play should have been an error. This is exactly the kind of hometown scoring that drives people crazy. It feels like protecting a name more than calling the game honestly. Chapman already has a few errors this season, and instead of holding him accountable with a fourth, the scorekeeper flips it into a hit and sticks the pitcher with the damage. That’s not scoring—that’s politics.

The SF Giants next season should change the start times on weeknights to 7:15 beginning on games June 15- August. Kids are out of school so a 30 minute later start is no big deal. In the top of 1st the visiting team will have to deal with the glare from the Batters Eye more than the bottom of the first. This AB was at 7:17. Start at 6:45PM April- June 14 & in September.

Mike Yastrzemski with an incredible catch here. The SF Giants should trade him because he will provide some team in contention with excellent defense. Yaz is a valuable 4th OF & occasional starter & PH for a good team. The Giants are not a good team & need to sell, sell, sell.

The SFG & Greg Johnson are at it again. Now they’re backing off Tatsuya Imai because he’ll “cost too much.” This team claims it wants to contend with the Dodgers, but won’t pay for top-tier pitching. Built to win now — acting like they’re fine pretending instead of contending.
