This is one of the most heartbreaking videos I have ever watched. After the demolition of people’s homes by National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) , a devastated mother reportedly chose to take her own life, overwhelmed by the pain of losing everything she had worked for. In the video, her young son can be seen desperately pleading with her not to do it. No child should ever have to witness such pain. No mother should be pushed to such hopelessness.

When the NUP legal team, together with the family of Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi, went to court to file a habeas corpus application, the government asked for four days to respond and argued that there was no need for the court to compel them to produce him. Imagine that. A man has been missing for more than 10 days, yet the government still wants more time instead of producing him before the court.

I may not be an expert in military matters, but one thing I know is that the men and women in uniform are Ugandans too, and they deserve respect and dignity. If one makes a mistake, they should be handled in good faith, fairness, and integrity—not treated as though they personally ordered killings, abductions, or torture as the current CDF does . . Accountability should always be guided by justice and respect. Let us respect those men and women in uniform.
