The protest, mainly by tribal women, was being held on the banks of the Barana river near Kupi village in Chhatarpur district. Protesters launched 'jal satyagraha', 'chita (funeral pyre) satyagraha' and, since the eighth day of the agitation, a symbolic 'faansi satyagraha'.
