Why are you running an unofficial emergency where people are sent to five days of detention just for waving the national flag at Jantar Mantar? Such things did not happen even during the Emergency. If you have the strength, declare the Emergency officially. These people are utter cowards who are hiding behind the police. Since yesterday, Saurav, Ashutosh, and Ajinkya were held in illegal detention and were not even allowed to meet their lawyers. This morning, Saurav and Ashutosh were remanded to five days of judicial custody. What was their crime?" On INDIA bloc protests, he said, "All these protests are fighting for the exact same cause. We all share a single goal, fighting against Gyanesh Kumar, who is rigging elections to help Narendra Modi stay in power. VIDEO | Delhi: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi addresses a press conference with protesters, introduces a female protester as "our sherni". He says, "I want to introduce our 'sherni'. She was beaten, but she was not afraid. There was no hatred in her heart." The female protester alleges that she was assaulted by a woman police constable during a protest. She says, "Yesterday, all NSUI workers were protesting peacefully when we were detained in three buses. There were many of our colleagues, around 30-40 in each bus. In our bus, there were two girls and 20-30 other NSUI colleagues. There was a woman constable in the bus named Chanchal Yadav. After being detained, we tried to get off the bus again through the gate and continue leading the protest. We tried to stop the bus and sat down beneath it so that our protest could somehow continue. But Chanchal Yadav grabbed me tightly by the neck and pushed me, causing me to fall backwards onto the seat. She then scratched my face with her nails, leaving scratches across my face and near my ear. When I resisted her, she slapped me so hard and said, 'Here, take another slap across your face.'" VIDEO | Hingoli, Maharashtra: CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke says, "Delhi Police, if you have the courage, release the entire video in which I repeatedly asked them to let me speak to my cousin, give me my phone for two minutes and allow me to speak to my lawyer. Why are you not releasing that video? You are showing an edited version. If you have the courage, show the entire video so that people can understand how you denied me my basic rights. Allowing a person to call their lawyer after arrest or detention is a legal right. Delhi Police did not even allow me that, and now they are taking the moral high ground. They did not tell me, my parents or my lawyers where I was being held, which police station I was in or where in the country I had been taken. They did not inform anyone throughout the day. At 3.30 am, they deliberately wanted me to call my parents and cause them further distress when they had already lost my grandmother. Was I supposed to give them another shock by telling them that their son was going to be jailed for a long time? Delhi Police was mentally torturing not just me but my family as well. Did the Delhi Police tell my family where I was being held? They kept telling me to speak to my parents, but did they tell my parents which jail or police station I was in? If they did not, why not?
