President Dallin H. Oaks’ (Dallin H. Oaks) remarks at the National Cathedral offer a message every American would benefit from listening to. "As a practical basis for unity, all of us should accept the reality that we are fellow citizens who need each other. This requires all of us to obey some laws we dislike and to live peacefully with some persons whose values differ from our own. We should make every effort to understand the experiences and concerns of others, especially when they differ from our own. We should be especially careful not to seek total dominance for all of our own positions." The prophet concluded by praying "that we will all seek to be peacemakers." The Church shared this video on Instagram today highlighting Dancing with the Stars pro Rylee Arnold. Rylee shared how she’s felt God’s love through trials, saying: “No matter what you are going through, Heavenly Father knows you and He loves you, and He’s giving that to you for a reason. He wants you to grow and push past that trial.” Awesome feature on Rylee and her faith!

I listened to Elder Dushku's devotional today and was completely blown away. "The fundamental choice we face, brothers and sisters, is not between one philosophical approach to life and another. "It is between Jesus Christ: the living Son of the living God, with His outstretched arms bearing the marks of His sacrificial offering and eternal love for us, and the world: Satan, the great and spacious building, the philosophies of men, the desires of the flesh, fame, fortune, power of or whatever else divides us from Him. "That is the choice. Christ or the world." Take some time to listen to his words. I can't think of a better appetizer for General Conference next week.

Tonight my family and I watched Swiss Family Robinson. Absolute classic. One scene in particular struck me. Right after the Robinsons land on shore from their shipwreck, the mother suggests the family kneel in prayer before building a shelter. Bring faith back into film.

In 1998, President Gordon B. Hinckley made a rare national media appearance on Larry King Live. The interview was a major public milestone of President Hinckley's ministry, as he dispelled myths, clarified stances, and explained the mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for an international audience. Much of the interview delved into current issues of the day, including President Bill Clinton's controversies the month before and other legislative or political issues. Less than a month after the terrorist attacks on 9/11, President Gordon B. Hinckley addressed the Church and the world at the General Conference pulpit. This was his message: “Are these perilous times? They are. But there is no need to fear. We can have peace in our hearts and peace in our homes. We can be an influence for good in this world, every one of us. “May the God of heaven, the Almighty, bless us, help us, as we walk our various ways in the uncertain days that lie ahead. May we look to Him with unfailing faith.”

President Oaks dropped a quote in this video today that stopped me in my tracks. I think every Latter-day Saint should hear it. He said: “When we come to the temple, we come to a place which is dedicated exclusively for the service of the Lord. And as a result, the Spirit of the Lord is stronger here than any other building except a well-functioning home.” Latter-day Saints view the temple as the singular place on earth that gets us closest to God and the Spirit. But President Oaks teaches us here that the Spirit of the Lord can be felt even stronger in a well-functioning home. What a powerful and motivating principle. May we all strive to make our homes Houses of the Lord where His Spirit can freely abide.

Many people still refer to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as Mormons. In 2018, President Russell M. Nelson gave a talk encouraging the membership of the church and the general public to address the church by its full and proper name. “Joseph Smith did not name the Church restored through him; neither did Mormon. It was the Savior Himself who said, ‘For thus shall my church be called in the last days, even The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.’” This name isn’t new.
