Can you imagine spending $70 million of taxpayers' money... and incinerating it? That's exactly what happened in the Tylenol deal. This wasn't simply an expensive mistake. It was a failure of process, oversight, and accountability. Here was the deal: $70 million paid up front. $10 million administration fee. $10 million worth of unusable product from Turkey. Approximately $50 million still outstanding. A lower-cost North American supplier passed over. The successful contractor later became the subject of an RCMP Organized Crime Unit investigation. The company remains eligible to bid on government contracts. Several family members affiliated with the company were hired into government, and some continue to work there today. You tell me. If Private Investors Won't Invest...Why Should Taxpayers? I'm strongly in favour of exporting more Alberta oil. As Alberta's former Energy Minister, I believe we should build the right projects for the right reasons. But these new pipeline proposals, together with a proposed $65-billion carbon capture project, raise serious questions. If the economics are sound, where are the private investors? The proposed northern pipeline alone is estimated to cost between $70 billion and $100 billion. If governments borrow roughly $150 billion to build these projects, billions of dollars in interest payments would come before Albertans ever see a return – if at all. Supporting Alberta's energy industry doesn't mean saying yes to every project. It means saying yes to projects that make economic sense, protect taxpayers, and deliver real value for Albertans. Debate: Cancelled! After Question Period today, the UCP shut down the Legislature and cancelled Private Members’ Business - stopping non-government MLAs from debating anything at all. That move killed debate on my Motions for Return and Written Questions. In six and a half years here, I’ve never seen this done. They’re suing opponents. They’re banning party names. And now they’re shutting down debate. That’s not transparency. That’s control. On November 7th, the UCP launched a lawsuit against me, MLA Sinclair, and the Alberta Party. Albertans deserve to hear what this case is - and what it isn’t. Because it isn’t about trademarks or party names. And it isn’t about justice. This is about intimidation - and it fits a pattern. The UCP use threats to silence anyone who challenges them. They claim I was removed from caucus due to misconduct. The truth is: I raised concerns about potential corruption and pushed for transparency. I wasn’t removed for misconduct - I was removed because I refused to participate in it. The lawsuit itself is littered with errors. One especially odd claim is the allegation of a “conspiracy.” And the irony is hard to miss: a party known for chasing conspiracies is now trying to convince Albertans that everyone else is part of one. This government has a credibility problem - and it shows when they use baseless accusations to distract from their failures. Their trademark argument is weak. More importantly, the UCP let the PC name lapse - and in 2023 a private citizen legally registered it. If anyone “lost” the name, it was the UCP - through their own negligence. But they never accept responsibility. They blame anyone but themselves. This lawsuit is about fear - fear of competition and fear of a conservative movement they can’t control. But sunlight is coming. We welcome evidence, documents, and cross-examination - and the Premier finally answering questions under oath. Who's Really Profiting from Alberta's Data Centers? The Alberta government calls data centers a multi-billion-dollar opportunity. But what's the return for Albertans? These projects demand enormous amounts of electricity, natural gas, water and public infrastructure. They place new pressures on municipalities and local communities, yet the government has provided very little information about the long-term economic benefits to Albertans. How much provincial tax revenue will they generate? What will they cost taxpayers and how will they affect affordability and inflation? Why are municipalities and local residents being sidelined in the process? I'm not opposed to data centers. Alberta should absolutely compete for investment. But attracting investment at any cost isn't good government. If Albertans are expected to provide the land, infrastructure, energy and public services that make these projects possible, then Albertans should be the first to benefit - not the last. We need transparency, accountability and a framework that protects the public interest before we commit billions of dollars' worth of Alberta's resources. Last Thursday, I rose in the House to hold Danielle Smith accountable for misleading the Health Cabinet Committee and hiding key details leading to the firing of the AHS Board-her own appointees. She failed to mention: A 10-page letter from the former AHS CEO. Notification of the AG. An AHS report on Tylenol. A probe into surgical facilities. It was meant for rare, exceptional cases - when a court ruling unintentionally overreached and threatened the democratic will of the people. With Bill 2, the “Back to Work” legislation, this Wildrose government crossed that line. This isn’t about provincial jurisdiction - it’s about using state power to override individual rights whenever they get in the way of political objectives. By invoking the clause to force teachers back to work, the government chose control over collaboration. Teachers deserve respect and dialogue, not coercion. They’ve carried Alberta’s classrooms through overcrowding, complexity, and years of under-resourcing. Forcing compliance isn’t leadership - it’s constitutional abuse. I asked straightforward questions about government decision-making, lobbying, and conflicts of interest involving the Premier. Instead of answers, I was met with interruptions, insults, and repeated attempts to shut down the discussion. Watch closely. Ask yourself: Why was this question so difficult to answer? And why were they so determined to prevent it from being asked? Since this exchange, Albertans have witnessed controversy after controversy involving sole-source contracts, procurement practices, government appointments, and questions of transparency and accountability. And now, AHS has been ordered by the courts to turn over documents to law enforcement. That development makes this exchange even more relevant.
