Forty-five years ago today ... a fortnight after Ian Botham's heroics at Leeds, Australia were on course to take a 2-1 series lead as they reached 87 for 3 chasing 151 in the 4th Test at Edgbaston, August 2nd 1981. John Emburey took two vital wickets and then came Botham Part 2. Those of us at home had to rely on the radio to follow it. We only had three channels in those days with two on the BBC. Grandstand, on BBC2, did not cover this live as the German Grand Prix was taking place, so we all had to listen to it on TMS and then wait for the 'as live' pictures a little later. Amazing support from the Barmy Army at the MCG and the result a just reward for all they had to watch until now. They stayed singing for a good half hour after the end but aside from a few waves from the middle no England players went over to thank them. Quite a few I spoke to were unimpressed. Can only assume this was a management/ PR decision. If so, add it to the list of things they have got wrong this tour
