Newly Released Body-Cam Footage Shows Moments Before Officer Ella French Was Killed During Chicago Traffic Stop Shop here: CHICAGO, Ill. – On the evening of Aug. 7, 2021, at about 9:06 p.m., Chicago Police Officer Ella French, 29, was fatally shot during a traffic stop in the city’s West Englewood neighborhood. Officers French and partners Carlos Yanez Jr., 39, and Joshua Blas, 37, had pulled over an SUV at 63rd Street and Bell Avenue. The vehicle was driven by 22-year-old Eric Morgan, with his brother, 21-year-old Emonte “Monty” Morgan, in the back seat and an unidentified woman in front. According to investigators, Emonte Morgan, armed with a .22-caliber pistol, opened fire on the officers as French approached the vehicle. The officers returned fire. Officer Blas wounded Emonte Morgan, who was treated at an Oak Lawn hospital; French was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center and pronounced dead; Yanez was critically wounded but survived after surgery, losing his right eye. Eric Morgan fled on foot but was captured by civilians after police shot his leg. The female passenger fled the scene but was later detained and released without charge. Authorities recovered spent .22-caliber casings at the scene that matched the recovered handgun. Cook County prosecutors charged Emonte Morgan with first-degree murder of a peace officer, two counts of attempted murder of officers, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. Eric Morgan was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful use by a felon, and obstruction of justice. Prosecutors noted that Eric Morgan, a convicted felon, was barred from buying firearms, prompting related federal charges: 40-year-old Jamel Danzy pleaded guilty to illegally purchasing the Glock used in the shooting and received a 30-month prison term in December 2022. In September 2021 a grand jury indicted Emonte Morgan on 85 counts in connection with the shooting. A jury found him guilty in March 2024 of French’s murder and the attempted murder of the other officers, and in September 2024 he was sentenced to two concurrent life terms without parole. Eric Morgan pleaded guilty in October 2023 to the weapons and obstruction charges and received a seven-year prison sentence. No charges were filed against the woman in the vehicle. Authorities reported that Eric Morgan’s prior felony conviction forced the straw purchase, and no prior convictions were documented for Emonte Morgan. Ohio Traffic Stop Erupts Into Shootout, High-Speed Chase and Deadly Manhunt HARRISON COUNTY, Ohio — On March 30, 2026, a traffic stop in Harrison County escalated into a series of shootings, a high-speed pursuit, and an hours-long manhunt that ended with the death of 53-year-old Michael Wade Decker of Steubenville. According to the Harrison County Sheriff's Office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), a deputy stopped a Dodge Journey on U.S. Route 250 near Eslick Road in Franklin Township at approximately 11:31 a.m. for following another vehicle too closely. The driver, Nikki Reynard, consented to a search of the SUV. Investigators said Decker, who was seated in the rear passenger seat, provided false identification and became suspicious. When the deputy asked him to exit the vehicle, a struggle ensued. Authorities said Decker pulled a handgun, pointed it at the deputy, and fired. The deputy deflected the weapon and fell down an embankment while attempting to escape, sustaining shoulder injuries. He was transported to Wheeling Hospital. Investigators said Decker stole Reynard's SUV and fled eastbound. Deputies and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers pursued the vehicle at speeds approaching 100 mph. Spike strips deployed on U.S. Route 22 near Hopedale disabled the SUV. Authorities said Decker exited the vehicle armed, fired multiple rounds that struck an Ohio State Highway Patrol cruiser, exchanged gunfire with a trooper, and fled into nearby woods. A multi-agency search involving local police, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, tactical teams, aviation units, and federal partners followed. Decker entered a residence, stole clothing, and changed his appearance. At approximately 7:37 p.m., a patrol helicopter located him near Mine Road and Sinfield Road. Officials said repeated commands to surrender were ignored. As officers attempted to arrest him using a police canine and less-lethal options, Decker brandished a firearm toward officers and the canine handler. An officer fired, striking Decker. Officers rendered aid, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Family Attorneys Question Police Tactics in Fatal Derek Jordan Shooting CHICAGO, Illinois — On March 9, 2026, the Illinois State Police and the Chicago Police Department investigated a series of incidents that ended in a fatal police shooting in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on Chicago’s West Side. Authorities said the investigation began earlier that day after reports of a shooting involving a white Mercedes on the Eisenhower Expressway. No injuries were reported in the expressway incident. According to Chicago police, investigators later identified the vehicle as connected to 42-year-old Derek Jordan. Several hours later, officers located the Mercedes near North Homan Avenue and attempted what police described as an investigatory stop. Officials said Jordan did not comply and drove away, leading officers on a brief pursuit through Humboldt Park. Police said the Mercedes struck a pedestrian during the chase before crashing in an alley near a CTA bus and other vehicles. Authorities reported that officers surrounded the vehicle and repeatedly ordered Jordan to exit. Investigators said Jordan instead attempted to move the Mercedes by striking the CTA bus and an unmarked police vehicle while officers were nearby. Body camera footage later released by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, or COPA, captured officers surrounding the vehicle moments before an officer fired multiple shots through the passenger-side window. Witnesses at the scene were heard yelling for officers not to shoot as the vehicle remained wedged between surrounding objects. Jordan was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police said a firearm was recovered from inside the Mercedes. Officials have not publicly stated that Jordan pointed or fired the weapon during the encounter. The pedestrian struck during the pursuit sustained injuries that authorities described as non-life-threatening. #police #cops #crime #policia #polizei #Police_Incidents #CrimeNews
