Passenger Pronounced Dead After Exchanging Gunfire with Chino Officer; Driver Revealed as Stabbing Victim Held Hostage On January 21, 2026, at approximately 9:50 p.m., officers with the Chino Police Department in Chino, California, conducted a traffic stop on a blue four-door sedan for a vehicle code violation in the... 12800 block of Central Avenue, near the intersection of Riverside Drive. The vehicle was initially traveling northbound, made a U-turn, and stopped in the southbound lanes just north of Riverside Drive. Officers contacted the female driver and male passenger. The female driver was not injured during the incident. She was not arrested. When officers instructed the male passenger to exit the vehicle, a physical struggle ensued. The passenger drew a concealed handgun and fired at least one round toward the officer(s). One officer returned fire, striking the passenger. A handgun was recovered at the scene, and evidence confirmed the suspect had fired his weapon. Officers immediately rendered aid. The passenger was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. One officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries (not from gunfire) and was treated and released. The investigation later revealed that the female driver had been stabbed the previous day and was being held against her will by the male passenger. NEW: Grand Rapids police officer suffers broken leg after passenger resisted extraction during traffic stop According to GRPD, during a traffic stop officers noticed the front-seat passenger was not wearing a seatbelt and repeatedly refused to provide identification or exit the vehicle. Officers ordered him out, but he continued resisting by bracing himself inside the car with his legs. On May 16, 2026, at approximately 4:15 a.m., FWPD East Division officers were on scene working a previous officer involved shooting near the 4200 block of Wiman Drive. While still investigating the shooting, a white SUV drove by multiple times at a high rate of speed. It appeared the driver was attempting to hit officers standing near their vehicles. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver failed to stop. Officers pursued the SUV for approximately 15 minutes and eventually stopped the vehicle with a tactical vehicle intervention, also known as a PIT maneuver. Officers then approached the vehicle with their guns drawn and gave multiple verbal commands. The adult male subject did not comply with the officers’ orders and grabbed an officer’s handgun. At that point, multiple officers fired their guns and struck the suspect. Medical aid was provided by officers until the Fort Worth Fire Department arrived on scene. The male was pronounced deceased on scene. A Fort Worth Police Officer was injured during this incident and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. It is unknown at this point how the officer was injured. The officer is listed in good condition. Detectives from the Major Case unit were called to the scene and are continuing the investigation. NEW: Chicago police open fire on the driver of a wanted vehicle in Humboldt Park. According to police, the white Mercedes was possibly linked to a shooting that happened on Monday. When officers tried to stop the vehicle, the man started driving before allegedly hitting a woman and crashing into a CTA bus multiple times. "The vehicle struck an adult female pedestrian in the street and continued to flee... [He] struck the bus multiple times with the vehicle and struck an unmarked squad car," police said, adding that a gun was recovered from the vehicle. Suspect vehicle and altercation - On October 12, 2024, Sheriff T.K. Waters, alongside Undersheriff Shawn Coarsey, joined Chief of Investigation Alan Parker to provide details leading up to the murder of one of our Corrections Officers. At approximately 1:20 a.m., in the 12900 block of Duval Road, a black Mustang occupied by a black male (suspect) and a female, were involved in a violent dispute. During the argument, the suspect was observed exiting the vehicle from the passenger seat and walking around to the driver’s side. The suspect then placed a black handgun on the hood of the vehicle and removed the female from the driver’s seat. The male proceeded to batter the female, violently throwing her against the vehicle and the ground. During the commotion, off-duty Corrections Officer Bradley McNew #7697, who just finished his shift, heard the disturbance and went to check on the female victim. The suspect approached Officer McNew, stating it was a family matter, then re-engaged with the female before pointing the gun in Officer McNew’s direction. The suspect and female eventually returned to the vehicle. As they left the scene, the suspect was observed hanging out of the window, firing the firearm, and ultimately striking Officer McNew. They followed the vehicle onto the 5 Freeway. When the driver accelerated to evade, officers initiated a pursuit. The BMW turned onto the exit, made an abrupt U-turn against traffic, and collided head-on with an oncoming police vehicle. After the crash, 30-year-old Jesus Ernesto Jaime exited the BMW, refused commands to surrender, pulled a semi-automatic handgun from his waistband, and pointed it at an officer. Body-cam Captures Deadly Shootout That Killed Baldwin Park Police Officer Baldwin Park, California – On May 31, 2025, at approximately 7:12 p.m., Baldwin Park Police responded to reports of gunfire and a person down in the 4200 block of Filhurst Avenue. The call involved a shooting where 22-year-old Eduardo Roberto Medina-Berumen allegedly fatally shot 43-year-old Darius Wong, a father of two, who had just parked his car nearby and was walking to a family gathering. Wong was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound in the front yard. When the first two officers arrived, the suspect immediately opened fire with a rifle. One officer was wounded (bullets struck his patrol vehicle), and both took cover. Officer Samuel “Sam” Riveros, 35, a 9-year veteran, SWAT team member, and field training officer, responded to assist. He ran toward the gunfire to aid fellow officers and protect the community, but was shot in the head. Riveros was transported to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The second officer was treated and released from the hospital. Officers returned fire, striking and apprehending the suspect, who was hospitalized in stable condition.
