I joined Caleb Bond on Sky News Australia to discuss today’s Giggle v Tickle decision but I’m honestly still in shock. And I’m angry. Angry that men who claim to be women are not only women in law, but have more rights than the actual women the law was designed to protect. Angry that women and girls have been told, once again, that our spaces, boundaries and safety matter less than men’s feelings. Angry that this insanity is being championed at the highest levels by ideologically captured governments and institutions. Angry that Sall Grover has been left to carry this burden for the past 4.5 years when our politicians could have fixed our laws in an instant. No more cheap talk about women’s rights and safety. “We have a real issue with the objectification of women and girls in this country – we’ve seen it in schools, with issues of online porn etc – and so to have these kinds of comments from the Prime Minister reducing women to sexual objects is incredibly damaging.” I spoke to @Chriskenny_sky on Akeem about Anthony Albanese's crude public comments and half-hearted apology about wanting to "shag" Kylie Minogue if his marriage went "tits up". No one – men or women – should be sexually objectifying others for entertainment, but especially not Australia’s Prime Minister. The fact that he thought it appropriate to do so on camera, doesn't just show a lack of respect for women, it shows an extraordinary lack of judgement from him and those around him. On the one hand, the hypocrisy is impossible to ignore. This is a government that constantly virtue signals about respect and equality for women, but here, Australian Labor MPs have either been radio silent or made pathetic attempts to defend him. On the other hand, this is the same Prime Minister who dismissed calls to restore critical sex-based protections for women and girls as a "culture war", and whose government blocked bills just last week that would have fixed this. So perhaps this latest display of disrespect for women isn’t so surprising after all.
