The juiciest story of the NFL trade deadline? That the Titans reportedly wouldn’t trade with the Patriots yesterday at the NFL trade deadline because…Tennessee’s owner had ill will about the end of Coach Mike Vrabel’s tenure there. The Patriots had been interested in RB Tony Pollard and edge rusher Adrian Key, according to those reports. Herd w/Colin Cowherd

“She told me players should be on their knees thanking their lucky stars for the media deal I got them.” - 5x All Star Napheesa Collier recounts a conversation with WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert. Collier also joined her Lynx Coach Cheryl Reeve in blaming League office leadership for issues with inconsistent officiating and player safety.

Bad teams don’t tank because they are dying to lose for six months straight, alienate fans and create bad habits for their young players. They do it because they have to – the NBA just doesn’t give bad teams a lot of avenues to get better. And a number of the “tanking solutions” that have been proposed would actually make it even HARDER for bad teams to climb out of the bottom of the standings. Flatten the lottery odds? So you’re proposing giving good teams a *better* chance to get the best rookies and bad teams a *worse* chance than they have now? Yeah, that’s bad for the league, bad for fans, bad for players. The NBA needs to focus on creating more pathways to improve, so tanking isn’t the only way - and in my opinion that means holding bad owners accountable too.

Let’s be honest, LeBron’s 18-year streak of double digit games largely ended because he went 4-for-17 from the floor and 0-5 from three in the Lakers win over Toronto. But he still could have salvaged it in the final seconds - instead he stayed true to his roots and passed to a teammate with a better look. A fitting way for him to put an exclamation point on an incredible record that’s going to be nearly impossible to break.

Are the cuts the new Portland Trailblazers owner has made gonna come back to bite him? Staff members getting kicked out of hotel rooms 6+ hours before tip off because the Blazers won’t pay late checkout fees…offering Portland’s interim coach 25% of the going market salary…no extras like tshirts for fans…this may have worked for an NHL but the NBA is a *very* different culture. 📺: Catch the latest episode of Open Floor on @sportsillustrated’s YouTube channel, or wherever you get your podcasts 🎧

My favorite Bill Walton experience: when he came to visit us at The Jump, saw a framed photo we had on set of Bill Russell (his favorite player), and simply walked over, grabbed it - and took it home. The whole thing was absolutely delightful. What a force; he will be so missed

Angel Reese is right about her role in the W's popularity surge & how Caitlin Clark can absolutely be the BIGGEST reason without being the ONLY reason. Now if some folks could just stop making every Angel/Caitlin interaction into an episode of The Kardashians, we'd be in business

Been, um, refreshing seeing so many people start questioning the NBA’s 65-game rule for All-NBA after people have been telling me I’m crazy for the past three years. This was never a good solution for the load management issue; All-NBA teams are designed to mark for history who are the best players in a given season. Now that Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Victor Wembanyama, etc all may not be eligible this season, it’s safe to say this year’s All NBA team won’t do that. All-NBA accolades used to be one way we could truly compare players from different eras, because it measured them in their own times, but now that’s gone. Not to mention that All-NBA is tied to some players’ contracts - Jalen Williams is gonna miss out on $48 million this year due to a surgery the Thunder themselves wanted him to have. So what’s the REAL solution to load management? Watch to the end:
