Today 58 out of 516 crown courts aren’t sitting (Court_Stats ). Surely the best way to address the crown court backlog is to increase court sitting days, not limit jury trials?! Turns out per Kirsty Brimelow KC that 25% of defendants are brought to court over 5hrs late too!
