Eleven days after four Giants pitchers protested the team's annual Pride Night celebration — setting off a backlash cycle that has since drawn in the Department of Justice, Republican Sen. Josh Hawley and MLB commissioner Rob Manfred — a small group of fans gathered outside Oracle Park on Tuesday to voice their frustration. Among them was Robert, an Outer Sunset resident and lifelong Giants fan who says he hasn't missed an Opening Day except for the pandemic. He came carrying a hand-painted sign and a sense that the team he has followed for decades had mishandled the moment. Find more fan reactions at the link below.

Iconic LA chain Randy's Donuts just opened its first Bay Area location, directly across the street from Stan's, the family-run shop that's anchored the neighborhood since 1959. By Friday morning, the rivalry was already on display. Someone had scrawled "Stan's" in sidewalk chalk outside Randy's, complete with a heart around the name. It surfaced in the line, too. "The inevitable comparisons between Stan's and another doughnut shop opening across the street are pretty interesting," said Nicole Linxie, who stopped at Stan's for her usual glazed doughnut before joining the line at Randy's. "That's my favorite. I'll probably get the same thing here."

This past Saturday, the Exploratorium hauled its NOAA research buoy out of San Francisco Bay for its annual Bay Day cleaning. Volunteers got hands-on with a year's worth of marine growth coating the beacon — barnacles, oysters, algae and other invertebrates. Under microscopes, visitors examined the tiny hitchhikers while learning how the buoy tracks everything from sea level rise to climate change.

The World Dog Surfing Championships returned to Linda Mar Beach on Saturday, drawing thousands to Pacifica for the event’s 10th year. Spectators stretched from the shoreline to the bluff as the sport’s most decorated athletes paddled out across small, medium, large and tandem heats. “It’ll be good performance surf for a pooch to strut his stuff,” Mark Sponsler, the go-to wave forecaster for Mavericks, told SFGATE ahead of the competition.

The Giants are back in San Francisco for the first time since their four pitchers' Pride Night protest became a national story. But in a media session before Tuesday's game, president of baseball operations Buster Posey gave an opening statement about the protest, and then declined to take any further questions about it, saying he'd discuss only baseball matters.

After 37 years in operation, San Francisco Centre closed its doors on Saturday, Jan. 24 — two days ahead of schedule. Once the height of retail, the beleaguered mall went through several name changes over the years, including a brief rebrand as Emporium Centre San Francisco. The abrupt shutdown may have been triggered by a viral Instagram post: days before the planned closing, Boss unkie shared a story about a final farewell party on Sunday that racked up over 250,000 views. Despite the early closure, around 100 people still showed up on Sunday to say goodbye to the mall many knew simply as "The Westfield." A DJ set up decks in front of the main entrance by Powell Street BART, and the crowd danced, sang and celebrated under plumes of smoke — a spontaneous sendoff for a San Francisco landmark.

Klay Thompson went solo against a group of children at his #NBAAllStar event. All throughout the beloved ex-Warriors star's event, Thompson delighted in hooping with the young Bay Area fans — though he made sure to gently taunt the kids when he made a 3-pointer, too.
