🚨DID TAXPAYERS FUND BIG HALAL FOOD FESTIVAL?🚨 The Big Halal Food Festival took place in Cardiff this weekend. Held at Wales Millennium Centre, it was billed as "Wales' largest Halal Food Festival". But did Welsh taxpayers fund the event? We have reason to suspect they did. The poster advertising the event included the logo of the Arts Council of Wales, the Welsh Government funded "charity" that hands out cash to various cultural initiatives. We also found an advertisement to the Big Halal Lifestyle Expo 2025, held in February this year. The pre-Ramadan event was sponsored by Business Wales, Welsh Government's free, independent advisory and support service for businesses. Sponsorship of an event typically involves a financial contribution towards its running costs. It's therefore reasonable to assume that Big Halal is, at least in part, funded by taxpayers. We've therefore put the following questions to the Arts Council of Wales, Business Wales, Cardiff Council, Welsh Government and the Wales Millennium Centre: 1) Did you provide any grant funding towards the Big Halal Food Festival or Big Halal Expo in any of the past five years? If so, please disclose the total grant value and the projects funded. 2) Have you provided any sponsorship for either the Big Halal Food Festival or Big Halal Expo in any of the past five years? If so, please disclose the total amount awarded and full details of the sponsorship in question. 3) Have you paid either Big Halal Food Festival, Big Halal Expo or its organisers for any goods or services in any of the past five years? If so, please provide a breakdown of the goods and services procured, stipulating the total amount paid. 4) Have you provided any goods or services free of charge to either the Big Halal Food Festival or Big Halal Expo in any of the past five years? If so, please provide full details of the goods and services in question, the amount charged and their respective market value. These could include, but are not limited to, the costs of road closures, events space, policing or staffing that would otherwise have commanded a fee or charge but were provided to the Big Halal Food Festival or Big Halal Expo on a free of charge or discounted basis. We'll share the answers with you when we have them.
