Meles Zenawi — the experienced fighter who spent over a decade battling the Dergue and later ruled #Ethiopia for 21 years — once warned, “If anyone thinks they can force the #Eritrean people to their knees, we wish them luck. We’re not playing that game.” Then along came Abiy — the reincarnation of Grigory Potemkin showman himself — bragging that he could bring #Eritrea to its knees with a mere snap of his fingers. God help the Horn of #Africa from this reckless fantasist.

This man is a Minister in #Ethiopia's Prosperity Party (PP) government. In an interview on Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) few days ago, he discussed Ethiopia's unlawful claim to ownership of Red Sea coastal territory. In doing so, he bastardizes the history of the Horn of #Africa to accommodate Abiy Ahmed's Red-Sea fantasies and to destruct the poor #Ethiopian public. We constantly receive messages from PP supporters on social media telling us not to speak about Ethiopia and related matters. I would be more than happy not to mention Ethiopia if its covetous Ministers and Generals would stop mentioning #Eritrea. The relentless propaganda and toxic indoctrination aimed at persuading ordinary #Ethiopians that they are victims because of the Red Sea issue is becoming increasingly dangerous. If left unchecked, it could easily lead to conflict, destruction, and further destabilization of the region. In this clip, he appears to have little understanding of how modern nation-states are formed, particularly how sovereignty and borders were established in #Africa. He refers to the 4th-century Kingdom of Aksum and its use of the port of Adulis as justification for contemporary territorial claims. Someone needs to explain to this greedy Minister that if the borders of African states were to be determined according to the ancient kingdoms, then present-day Ethiopia would not be recognizable . Large parts of what is now Ethiopia—including #Oromo, #Somali, 'Southern people', #Afar, and #Benishangul-#Gumuz regions—would not be part of modern day Ethiopia. Even the #Amhara heartland was not fully part of the Aksumite Kingdom during much of its existence. So when he uses Aksumite Kingdom of the 4th century to justify his Red-Sea fantasies, which Ethiopia exactly is he referring to? The modern Ethiopian state did not exist in its current territorial form, and using ancient kingdoms as a basis for contemporary sovereignty claims raises even more difficult questions his small brain can answers.

Berhanu Nega may have just delivered the most devastating blow to Abiy’s delusional politics, issuing a resignation statement from his party that doubles as a stark warning about #Ethiopia’s bleak political future. In an hour-long speech he gave a damning account of the deep chaos and uncertainty facing the country. Whatever Berhanu’s ultimate objective may be, the address is a must-listen. Although, the government-aligned TV stations appear to have cut some of the most damaging portions of his remarks, what remains is still politically explosive. Among the striking admissions and warnings he delivered were: “We have failed politically as a country.” "We have made Ethiopia's economy even much worse than it was 60 years ago, where 80% of our population is still expecting to be fed using stone-age agricultural practices" “It is unthinkable to live in Ethiopia—a country of many ethnicities and religions—while we have institutionalized politics based on ethnicity and religion.” “Given the way our politics is structured, it is impossible to believe we can continue as a functioning society.” “We must pull ourselves away from backstabbing and accusatory politics. We must listen to each other and abandon the ‘my way or the highway’ mentality, as well as the illiterate hubris of thinking only about ourselves without regard for the consequences for others.” “Politics must not become a space from which wise and capable people flee, leaving it to be dominated by boisterous and unintelligent voices.” “We should refrain from turning those with different ideas into mortal enemies.” “If we do not change our ways now, it is hard to imagine what the fate of our country will be.” “If we continue practicing politics the way we do today, we will not withstand the major changes taking place around us.” Taken together, these remarks amount to a rare public acknowledgment from within Ethiopia’s political elite that the country’s current political structure is unsustainable.

Abiy Set to Invade #Eritrea, Says Senior #Ethiopian Politician Eng. Yilikal Getnet In this honest and revealing interview with Anchor Media, Eng. Yilikal says 'Almost every day, without exception, it is Abiy who declares, “I will invade you, I will destroy you, I will start a war.” What is Eritrea supposed to do in this kind of relentless provocation? Yet, those claiming that a war is imminent between #Eritrea and #Ethiopia are deliberately creating a false balance — portraying both countries as equally responsible. This narrative seeks to divide public opinion, fuel speculation about who is right or who might win, and obscure the simple truth: Abiy Ahmed is the one preparing for war under the pretext of “bringing back #Assab.” If he truly believes this madness serves his interest, let him proceed — and good luck to the few who might follow him. There is no justification for the Ethiopian people to be dragged into another reckless conflict. Such a war would be disastrous, violate international law, and destroy any hope of diplomatic resolution. Therefore, the real headline should not read “Eritrea and Ethiopia Heading to War” — it should state plainly: “Abiy is about to invade Eritrea.” As for Getachew and Tsadkan, who only recently fought a war against Abiy and now seek to align with him in a new one, all that can be said is: good luck again. In the end, the Foreign Policy article’s intent is unmistakable — to fabricate moral equivalence between Eritrea and Ethiopia and make both appear equally culpable in a war that Abiy alone is provoking.'
