She said it was unbelievable, that he shows respect even to strangers on the street, and that her son could never commit such a monstrous act. Riya Talukdar has an elder brother. According to Ramanuj’s mother, the brother does not live in Assam. The couple had not even completed a year of marriage. Riya, from Noonmati, and Ramanuj, from Gauripur, had begun their new life together this year. Before the wedding Ramanuj worked at a private firm. After marriage they moved into “Anjali Griha” in Bashishtapur, Beltola. Riya worked at a boutique in Fancy Bazar. Ramanuj had bought a new car and started driving for Uber and Rapido in Guwahati. Neighbours say there were violent quarrels between the two. Disagreements were frequent. On Saturday, neighbours heard the sounds of a terrible commotion.
