TPA President Clayton Campbell joined Greg Brady on Toronto Today to call out the federal government’s focus on legal firearms. Our members know the truth: almost every gun used in violent crime in Toronto is illegal. These weapons are in the hands of gang members and repeat offenders, people already banned from owning guns, often out on bail, and still terrorizing our streets. Meanwhile Ottawa wants to waste time and money going after legal gun owners. Those resources should be used where they matter, stopping the flow of illegal guns and keeping our city and members safe. Enough is enough.

In Ottawa, TPA President Clayton Campbell made it clear: the federal gun buyback program will do nothing to reduce the violence we’re seeing in Toronto. Instead of spending millions on an ineffective program, we would encourage the federal government to reach out to Mayor Olivia Chow 🇨🇦 and Chief Myron Demkiw and ask how they could use those funds to keep Toronto safe. For even a fraction of what is allocated to the buyback program, we could hire hundreds of police officers and mental health nurses, as well as fund community and youth programs across the city. #cdnpoli

I bet we could find better ways to invest $750 million that would actually keep Toronto safe.” That was the message from TPA President Clayton Campbell responding to the federal government’s gun buyback program. Clayton stressed that the program will have no impact on the gun violence our members are seeing in the city and that his job now is to lobby for real investments that make a difference in public safety.
