The groundwork on the ship building, however, began well before any public announcement. As early as 2022, early discussions were initiated with the Department of Minor Ports while I was a member of the state planning commission headed by Thiru. Jeyaranjan. We focused on possible new small ports along the TN coastline and infrastructure requirements for large-scale shipbuilding including requirements like harbour depth which is a fundamental determinant of what class of vessels can be built and launched. Around the same time, industry intelligence confirmed that global and national shipbuilding majors including HD Hyundai were actively scouting locations across India in states like GJ, AP etc and Tamil Nadu’s dravidian model inclusive governance environment and existing Japanese and Korean industrial ecosystem in TN were already registering favourably with prospective global investors. Thoothukudi’s Member of Parliament and DMK Dy Gen Sec Tmt. Kanimozhi Karunanidhi was simultaneously pressing the Union Government on the outer harbour expansion,dredging and Airport expansion with international connectivity which were crucial needs to sustain growth in that region. Crucially the years 2023 and 2024 were spent deepening the proposition through extensive research and systematic global engagement. During the #CMStalinInJapan visit in 2023, early conversations were held with Japanese industry leaders followed by a follow-up visit in July 2025 when we had detailed discussions with several industry leaders including one with the leadership of the world renowned Imabari shipbuilding company, one of the world’s most respected and foremost shipbuilders. This meeting opened my eyes to the traditional partnerships, complexities and needs of the shipbuilding industry. 2/n

We also never missed a chance to make sure that #TamilNadu made its presence felt at some of the major events pertaining to Ship building. On 29th of October 2025, at the India Maritime Week 2025 held in Mumbai, the then Highways and Small ports minister Thiru. EV Velu also joined me for another push for TN’s shipbuilding future and graced the occasion. Two ministers attending the same event sent out a strong message on TN’s intent. During my speech at the event I highlighted the massive strengths of our amazing state and pitched for the unions help in improving infrastructure in and around the VOC port, including dredging to increase draft. I also pitched for the Tamil Nadu Maritime vision 2035 via which we had pushed for the Blue Tech Innovation hub, research on digitisation of port operations and decarbonisation of vessels etc. 3/n

💔 True Leader 🙏🏾🌄 நன்றி கொளத்தூர். I have seen my leader fight vehemently for the underground cables which were a big issue during 2011-16 and 2016-21 as MLA of Kolathur leader of the opposition. Once we came to power he not only made sure he solved that issue but also made sure he found every available piece of govt land and created Padippagams, Hostels, Hopsitals, Playgrounds, Stadiums and what not ! Infact I still remember going to his office with him in Kolathur in 2011-12. I saw his eyes gleaming showing me around his office and telling me about how he is helping his Constituency and things that he wanted to do. I learnt from him and worked on Mannargudi. For those of who are wondering WHO's statue that is and asking WHY is "racer" Ajithkumar, aka AK, literally praying to him !!! #AyrtonSenna or "#MagicSenna" as he was fondly called by #Formula1 racing fans around the world was the Original "#RainMaster" and a Brazilian Formula One Racing God♥️ He was a 3 time World Champion: 1988,90,91. That last year,1991, was the year many of us got initiated into F1 Racing and caught glimpses of the sport on TV or Sports Magazines and via friends with European friends 😅 Senna had a Massive 65 Poles and 41 Wins in the decade that he drove ... from 1984 to that fateful crash in Imola in 1994 😕 Did you know that the next man to be known as the "RainMaster", the phenom, my favourite, #MichaelSchumacher was in 2nd place when Ayrton Senna crashed on lap 7... The race continued and Michael went on to Win that race. It was like a sign that Schumy was indeed going to take over the mantle from Senna. Schumy is said to have found it very hard to accept Senna's passing from that crash. Some say he blamed himself for putting pressure on Senna eventhough Senna had a good lead and the crash was due to a steering column failure or something. Michael's emotions poured out when he equalled Senna's 41 Wins record YEARS later. (watch the attached clip) Ayrton raced with legends like "Professor" Prost, Piquet and the "Lion" Nigel Mansell ! Senna didn’t drive cars. He drove emotions. He didn’t chase podiums. He chased perfection... like Lauda or Prost or Schumy... That same race weekend in which Senna crashed Rubens Barrichello also crashed and I remember reading Senna Visited Rubens in the hospital... I think another driver crashed and passed during qualifying and then Senna went too ! Those were the days when safety standards were very low...and the driver had to trust his skills to get over the finish line AND get back home safely. So now you know WHY many people like me, around the world STILL idolise Senna and why #AK knelt before that statue of a #LEGEND. #Senna #KeepFightingMichael

During the #CMStalinInUS trip our Honourable CM M.K.Stalin avargal urged the diaspora to help the tourism sector in all ways possible. Upon this request the #TamilDiaspora responded positively and promised to raise funds for a Sightseeing bus. The dept of Industries investment promotion and commerce also requested the good people at Ashok Leyland to help with some CSR. As an outcome we now have a beautiful air-conditioned double decker bus which will ferry tourists around once our HCM flags it off on the 12th of Jan at the Non Resident Tamils Welfare Board "அயலகத் தமிழர் தினம்" event at CTC Chennai🙏🏾 We have taken extreme care in ensuring that the design also doesn't hinder the view from inside the bus...note the positioning of the design elements👍🏽 Am extremely thankful to Ashok Leyland, Veera Anna, Ram Anna, Siva Anna and the entire team in the US for having delivered on their promise to help the Dept of Tourism ♥️🙏🏾 #NRTDay2026
