This is 100% why I love The Last Jedi. At the time it came out I was 41 years old. Had been going through some of the hardest years of my life. And Rian Johnson's version of Luke Skywalker spoke to what I was experiencing. The Hero's Journey isn't just a coming of age mythological framework. It continues on into later phases of the human experience. The Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi speaks to that.

Every character in The Last Jedi is faced with the ultimate challenge possible after The Force Awakens. The character arc of Luke, Rey, Kylo Ren, Finn, Poe - even Snoke - are fully developed and beautifully written. But the greatest challenges aren't taking place in a galaxy far, far away. Fan expectations are most fully challenged by The Last Jedi. Rian Johnson crafted a masterpiece. It's time for Star Wars fandom to take a fresh look at it.
