Proctor wrote himself a script and “I’m laughing because it’s such a ridiculous accusation” was the best response he could come up with. Knowing he memorized this makes the Gutman interview so much funnier - first he forgets his line and then Gutman accidentally asks a follow up question before Proctor finishes his monologue
