𝗡𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥 ❌ underestimate the importance of solid reference! Not only did animator Shaofu Zhang do an incredible job with the reference for this shot from the Big Hero 6 teaser, but watching the translation from the ref to the final anim is simply magical!

We spoke with Kevin Temmer recently about his time on The Amazing Digital Circus (by Gooseworx and Glitch) as the Lead Animator and then Animation Creative Supervisor. We'll release the interview in three parts, each focused on a different topic, so stay tuned to hear more!

These reactions from the Hexed trailer are packed with great examples of the animation principles. While this is a VERY short shot, the timing of the beats and holds keep the action very readable and the movement feeling intentional. The strong key poses help with this too.

👀Look closely . . . Animators love to add smear frames wherever they can! Smear frames can be used to define movement and emphasize the direction of the motion. We usually don't want the smears to be too noticeable, but they're fun to spot when framing through the animation!
