I compared Michael Carrick’s journey at United to that of Mikel Arteta at Arsenal and people on here said they were no where similar to each other. I implore you to listen to what Simon Jordan said when Mikel Arteta took over Arsenal. Mikel Arteta took over mid December 2019, finished 8th two seasons in a row, finished 5th in 21/22 and then 3rd in 22/23. That 3rd place finish was exactly when Arsenal fans began to see that the fruits of what they’ve been labouring for all those years. I’d like to remind you as well that before taking the Arsenal job Mikel Arteta had zero experience as a manager even though he was Pep’s assistant. He never knew what it meant to be solely responsible for a team or what the pressure would actually feel like. Arsenal spent a total of £70m minus loan fees in Arteta’s first two windows (January and summer), compare that to Michael Carrick’s first transfer window as Manchester United manager. Micheal Carrick hasn’t gotten through a full season yet but was able to finish 3rd in his first half season. Like it or not the similarities between Carrick and Arteta are obvious whether it’s the dysfunctional nature of the clubs at the time both managers took charge or the media criticism of the board of both clubs or the lack of managerial experience or that bit of naivety that comes with inexperience or being completely written off by the media/pundits or being ex-players of the club they manage or being very young at the time they took over. The similarities are evident which makes it unsurprising to hear shouts for Carrick to get sacked, “Arteta out” almost replaced the Arsenal anthem at some point. Manchester United need stability, the same stability Mikel Arteta gave Arsenal not by winning immediately but by slowly injecting his identity into his team and winning just about enough to not get relegated. That stability has completely changed the face of Arsenal as a football club from being the butt of every joke to being favourites to win the league every recent season. Summary is that it’s simply way too early to have any concrete evidence that Michael Carrick isn’t the man for the job in-fact it’s 6years too early if compared to how long it took Mikel Arteta to finally win a Premier League title that had eluded Arsenal for 22 years and get them to the Champions League final in the same season. It’s simply too early.

Everything Wayne Rooney, Joe Hart and Micah Richards described about ball retention and controlling games is exactly what Kobbie Mainoo brings. Tuchel’s decision to start Declan Rice and Elliot Anderson shouldn’t be viewed as kobbie Mainoo not being good enough. It tells you the type of football Tuchel wanted to play throughout this tournament. By picking two defensive minded midfielders, he knowingly sacrificed ball retention, composure and creativity and England paid the price. Mainoo thrives under pressure. He’s technically gifted, receives the ball in tight spaces and keeps his team in control. England lacked all of that. This isn’t about bringing him on when you’re chasing the game,it’s about starting him if you had intentions of playing any other way asides sitting back and absorbing pressure. He would have given England the control they desperately needed against. Tuchel then made things worse with his substitutions. Instead of introducing attacking players to push Argentina back and give them something to think about, he invited more pressure by bringing on Nico O’Reilly and Dan Burn. Those subs basically said “we surrender”. His post match explanation doesn’t hold up either. If England lacked the aerial presence to deal with Argentina’s direct play, then why leave Harry Maguire at home? Defending long balls and dominating the box is exactly what Maguire is known for, yet Tuchel chose Ezri Konsa, John stones and Dan Burn instead. England’s biggest problem wasn’t the players it was Thomas Tuchel. From his squad selection and starting XI to his substitutions and in game management, his decisions consistently weakened England rather than giving them the best chance to win. If Manchester United are going to spend big on another left winger, it should be someone who offers a different profile to Matheus Cunha. As much as I rate Iliman Ndiaye, I see too many similarities between his game and Cunha’s. Cunha edges him in end product, decision-making and overall numbers. For all of Rafael Leão’s flaws out of possession, he brings something different elite pace, directness and 1v1 ability. Right now, that’s the kind of variation United’s attack is missing. #manchesterunited #mufc #transfernews

“If Manchester United had signed Vitinha when he was at Wolves, we’ll still be here having this conversation about how underwhelmed you feel” Forgive me if I don’t care about how you feel because you’ve proven that it’s more about how you feel than what would actually work at the club. #mufc #Transfernews

Arsenal lost the Champions League final yesterday and said they’ll be back but that would be wishful thinking if you don’t Change your style of football. As much sympathy as I have for the way you lost the truth remains that Arsenal can’t get far with playing the same style of football. #champi̇onsleaguefinal #Arsenal #psg
