It's not uncommon for the Lakers to run Stack Down for a shooter (or Stack Up for the lob). But this is the first time JJ's curled the stack man to run a flare for the big. Redick has tweaked the playbook in several ways to highlight Mamu. This is a good example.

JJ and the staff were PISSED at Jake. LA called the perfect set to attack switching defense. Jake will have an open roll w/a pass coming from a good angle, but doesn't know the play and doesn't roll. LA then tries an inside seal Bron instead and gets what they want.

Kessler rightfully gets a lot of credit for cleaning up mistakes (& did a ton yesterday), but I want to shout out Jaden Hardy and Bronny James here. After Thybulle is beat, Kessler rotates to traps the box and we see Harden sink & get into the dump off guy's body + Bronny bust ass to get to the corner, w/Hardy then full sprint to closeout, Bronny good help & recover forr a heavy contest.

Play 1 and 3 are with OKC ceding ground. Play 2 we see Austin do this move successfully. By doing this he's trying to both draw contact while creating space for the eventual shot on his drive.

Jalen Brunson is a bad iso defender (F metric grade) but the Knicks put him on bad iso players + had him show & recover instead of switching onto iso players. He switched just 10 of 64 P&Rs his man screened on that were used. 10 of the first 40, then 0 of the last 24. Los Angeles Lakers

Deandre Ayton was tied with AD and Lively this season for 16th most dunk points per game. In case you've never watched him before or need a reminder, here are some examples in Portland from this season of him being a lob threat.

Cameron Carr's ball screen offense was very unique this past season. His FG% by zone: Rim: 35% 💩 (25% frequency) Midrange: 28% 💩 (22.5% freq) 3-Pointers: 40% 🔥 (52.5% freq) Film on his 80 ball screen shots and his shot chart:

Los Angeles Lakers - Horns Flare The blur/ghost execution on this concept is a good attack against a defense that was often hedging. 2 on Grimes for a split second helped create the advantage.

I've been accused of hiding Looney roll film, which is the funniest thing I've been accused of. I am not (these are all the shots/turnovers/FT trips drawn), but I did not include his popping. Here is his pick and pop film from this past season. You're welcome to those people.

Adou Thiero played 30 minutes in the Lakers overtime win over Miami These 5 minutes of film show you EVERYTHING notable he did. Good & bad. Offense & defense. I've annotated most clips with quick notes on what I'm seeing. A big shift from G1: he was on-ball a lot on both sides of the court. We saw a lot of attacking and facilitating as he drew help, with mixed results. It was best late in the game.

Cameron Carr played ~24 minutes in his Lakers (exhibition) debut. These 5 minutes of film show you EVERYTHING notable he did. Good & bad. Offense & defense. I've annotated most clips with quick notes on what I'm seeing. I'd say this is a solid start!

Adou Thiero played 21 minutes in the Lakers first California Classic game. These 4.5 minutes of film show you EVERYTHING notable he did. Good & bad. Offense & defense. I've annotated most clips with quick notes on what I'm seeing. When he gets a runway, (everyone) watch out!

Josh Minott, known as the Lawn Mower for his energetic playing style, finally got real minutes this season and impressed. Brooklyn is expected to decline his option. LA should pursue. He's young, springy, a strong Wing Stopper, & despite wonky form is a solid 3PT shooter. A, C+, & A grade difficulty-adjusted shooting from the rim, midrange, & deep. A- Talent but F Optimization held his impact stats back. He's #4 in the NBA in Defensive Positional Versatility. A- Rim Protection, B- Help D, B+ Iso Defense, A Defensive Playmaking, A- Matchup Difficulty. Disruption and super switchy strong defense on- and off-ball, inside & outside. 📽️ If you want to have some fun 📽️

Here's Luka's Q4 defense! Some good, some bad. Certainly help from his teammates. But few points!

This one needs to go. The set itself yielded: Bron catch a step inside the 3PT line w/9 on the clock Bron catch a step inside the 3PT line at :10 Bron catch a step inside the 3PT line at :13 Bron catch at the block at :10 Bron catch a step inside the 3PT line at :07 The only switch put Eason on Bron (same guy as the past 4 plays)
