I am watching the Rameez Patel pre-sentencing proceedings. The defence called in a psychologist in mitigation of his sentence and she is recommending that a lengthy imprisonment would have a negative effect on the stability of his family structure. She therefore recommends alternatives like electronic monitoring, community service, house arrest, home detention or community supervision. The state prosecutor is questioning her on this recommendation.

You know, if you’re completely oblivious of certain things then it’s easy to believe some of the things that Mr Teffo says. I had his interview with SMW playing in the background while I worked and he says that he only heard about the “unlawful”removal of his name a week before the interview but he has not been struck off the roll of LPs. Therefore, he is going to continue practicing, despite the fact that he had already been found in contempt of the striking off order for doing the same thing and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.
