In my opinion, the single biggest upgrade Samsung should make to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is to bring the Galaxy Z Flip 8's ultra-thin bezels to it. Just shrinking the bezels one more step would completely transform the Fold 8's look. It would easily become the best-looking book-style foldable in my eyes.

Let me talk about the improvements in One UI 9.0 Beta 4. Here are the two changes I've noticed the most: 1. The Gallery animation has been fixed. The stutter when exiting the Gallery is gone. Returning from the Gallery is now smooth and fluid. 2. Gesture navigation feels more responsive. Samsung has improved the initial responsiveness of the back gesture. When swiping to return to the Home screen, the animation now feels noticeably smoother and more natural. I'm currently at Disneyland, waiting for the fireworks to begin. While I had some time to spare, I recorded two videos to show you exactly what I mean.

Thanks to an Android app called Liquid Glass, I can finally achieve an almost limitless Liquid Glass lock screen experience on One UI. It supports depth effects, lets you tweak all kinds of glass parameters, and even allows full font customization. You can use virtually any font you download, giving you an incredible level of freedom. The results are genuinely stunning. The biggest downside is that the setup is quite complicated. Adjusting the clock, in particular, takes a lot of steps instead of being something you can edit directly, so the learning curve is fairly steep. I really hope the developer can make the customization process more intuitive in future updates, and add more language options, especially Chinese, so more users can enjoy it.

This may be one of HarmonyOS’s advantages. At least in terms of visual rendering, dynamic blur, transparent materials, and layered depth, Huawei has clearly shown that it has the ability to create this kind of premium glass-like effect. I am not trying to argue whether it is right or wrong for Huawei to follow Apple’s design direction. My point is that the ability to actually achieve this effect is impressive in itself. By comparison, other Android-based OS skins have not yet shown the same level of execution. The Android camp still has work to do.

First, the conclusion: the so called Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra leak from last night turned out to be a false alarm. After watching the original video over and over again, I'm convinced it isn't a Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. It's actually the blue version of the Galaxy Z Fold7. Because of the lighting and color temperature, the blue frame appeared black on camera, which led to the confusion. Here are the three biggest clues: 1. The inner display camera cutout is too large. Compared with the official Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra renders, the inner camera hole on the Fold8 Ultra is noticeably smaller. The one in the leaked video is still the larger Fold7-style cutout. 2. The rear camera housing doesn't match. The cylindrical camera housing reflects light with a bright metallic sheen, which is much more consistent with the blue Galaxy Z Fold7 than the black Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. Some of the hardware details also don't line up. 3. The inner display is still highly reflective. The device in the video shows obvious screen reflections. However, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the first Fold to feature an anti reflective inner display film. Anyone familiar with Samsung foldables should immediately notice that the reflections don't look like this. Based on these three points, I'm confident the device in the video is a blue Galaxy Z Fold7, not the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. The confusion is understandable because the two generations are incredibly similar. They share the same overall dimensions and aspect ratio, making them very easy to mix up. The good news is that the real Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra will be even better. It will have an even less visible crease than the Fold7, along with the new anti reflective inner display film.

What you’re seeing now are creations from these developers. They are not official Samsung features, but they still look incredibly polished. All the updates brought by Samsung One UI 9 combined may not be as many as what Home Up has delivered this time. The latest version of Home Up 18.0.00.24 has added the ability to adjust the background color of the Edge Panel. This is my “homework” setup, feel free to use it as a reference. By properly adjusting the blur and transparency levels, you can create a more refined and beautiful visual effect for the Edge Panel. Check out my video to see the results.
