A complaint about drug sales in Daytona Beach led to a search warrant at 939 Madison Avenue... where a drug deal took place as deputies moved in. Drug dealer Bobby Johnson was hit by a flying bag of cocaine as customer Charlie Damon suddenly decided to return his purchase. Amuri Kelson took off running out the back of the house but was intercepted a few houses away. Detectives recovered drugs (including 831g cocaine), about $10,000 cash and guns (including one stolen and one with the serial number removed) from the scene, the house and an associated storage unit. The 3 defendants were charged accordingly and taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail.

On Tuesday afternoon, VSO responded to assist the Port Orange Police Department on a carjacking call. The victim reported that while she was getting her nails done at 1665 Dunlawton Ave., an unknown suspect took her purse and her keys, pointed something at her through his sweatshirt, and stole her vehicle, a black 2025 Buick Enclave. It was soon learned the suspect used the victim's credit card to buy beer at a 7-Eleven store. A Port Orange officer searching the area spotted the vehicle driving recklessly on Taylor Road with its rear hatch open. VSO Lt. Hughes also spotted it speeding westbound and joined in the pursuit. New Smyrna Beach PD also responded to assist. The VSO Communications Center relayed that OnStar was monitoring the vehicle and reported the driver was claiming he was armed with an AR-15 that he would use against law enforcement. OnStar also advised they could slow the vehicle if authorized by law enforcement, which was immediately granted and effectuated on Tomoka Farms Road just before International Speedway Boulevard. The vehicle slowed to a stop and Lt. Hughes pinned his truck against it. Lt. Hughes and Mike Chitwood approached and ordered the driver out, then removed him when he refused. He was drinking a beer when he was pulled from the driver's seat. Robert Tokarz, 44, is charged with carjacking, grand theft of a motor vehicle, fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, fleeing at high speed, leaving the scene of a crash, and driving with a revoked license. He was also arrested on a Virginia warrant for violating his probation for robbery.

A Daytona Beach man is in custody after sending messages, including video of gunshots, threatening: "This is what's in store." The VSO Domestic Security Unit tracked down Adrian Morales at the Icon One Daytona apartments directly across from Daytona International Speedway on Saturday. He was taken into custody without incident the day before the Daytona 500. Morales' proximity to the Speedway was concerning due to past grievances and aggressive messages he left for a NASCAR executive. The new threats in this video were directed at someone else, but also referenced grievances with the Sheriff's Office, DEA, and FBI. Morales' pattern of increasingly erratic behavior created urgency for law enforcement intervention. After he was taken into custody, detectives recovered the AR-15 used in the video along with several rounds of ammunition from Morales' vehicle in the Icon One Daytona parking lot. A judge subsequently ordered him held at the Volusia County Branch Jail with no bond.

Yesterday (4/22/26), deputies and FHP Orlando troopers responded to multiple reports of hit-and-run crashes involving a reckless driver on I-4, starting in Seminole County. Witnesses reported the suspect vehicle hit a guardrail, lost a front wheel and continued driving, exiting I-4 and getting stuck at a construction site off Shell Road in DeBary. Deputies detained the driver, Eric Drewry (DOB 8/28/1978), who appeared to be under the influence. He resisted and kicked a deputy while being escorted into the back of a patrol vehicle. While being questioned by a trooper about the crash, Drewry responded "What crash?" While being transported to the hospital Drewry asked deputies multiple times to be released in exchange for $2,000. Instead, he was charged with resisting and battery on law enforcement by VSO, and DUI, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, and refusal to submit to DUI testing (subsequent offense) by FHP.

Another close call, this time on a traffic stop overnight on I-4. A deputy was headed back to his patrol vehicle when a pickup pulling a trailer hit the driver's side. Could have been a tragedy, but instead it's the latest reminder to stay alert and 🚨 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 🚨 for vehicles on the side of the road ⚠️
