There is a documentary about how the CIA used Louis Armstrong's Africa tour as cover for surveillance. When a star that big arrives in a country, its leaders want to meet them. That access was the entire point. I watched that documentary. Then I watched IShowSpeed tour Africa with a Starlink device Elon Musk personally gave him that is not yet available to the public. I love what he did for Africa's visibility. I am not making a statement but my conspiratorial brain just will not fully cooperate.

Leaders are never appreciated in their time because they were ahead of their time. They spend their lives pulling people toward a reality those people have not yet accepted. And by the time society catches up and says he was right all along, the leader is already gone. They never get to enjoy the praise. That is the loneliness at the centre of real leadership.

Africa was sold the lie that it could jump from raw materials straight to a service economy without building industrial capacity in between. Every developed nation built their ladder through industrialisation. Then kicked it away so nobody else could climb it. Africa is building its own ladder now. And Dangote is one of the first rungs.

I walked into the Kwame Nkrumah Museum in Ghana and the first thing I saw was a Cadillac. Parked right at the entrance. A gift from John F. Kennedy to the man who liberated his people from colonial rule. I stood there and rolled my eyes. Not because Kennedy was being malevolent. But because a Cadillac is such a perfect summary of how the West has always seen African leadership. Something to be adorned. Never something to be taken seriously as an equal.

I sat with BBC News Africa and gave my honest take on everything happening in South Africa right now. South Africans have a legitimate problem. But we are not dialoguing. We are screaming at each other. It deserves a legitimate conversation. We have an Africa free trade area that facilitates the movement of goods. Why do we not have an Africa free visa agreement that facilitates the movement of people? That question is the entire migration debate in one sentence. And nobody in leadership is answering it.

We will pay 100 times the manufacturing cost for a product made in China with a European name on it. But the moment someone who looks like us tries to charge what their work is worth we question their audacity. Until we fix how we see each other we will keep funding everyone else's dream while starving our own.

Most resistance takes the form of its oppression. If an oppressor communicates through violence, then the oppressor elects violence as the language of negotiating power. In that circumstance, the oppressed people will fluently speak the language of violence. A wisdom nugget.
