It was surreal standing in front of the grave of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyya during my visit to Damascus last month. His grave is situated in a small garden within a medical school campus - this used to be the site of a larger cemetery, but only these graves have been preserved. Next to him are buried his student Ibn Kathir, and Ibn al-Ṣalāḥ. Damascus is a city whose history is unparalleled. The sheer quantity of ancient sites, historical monuments, and graves of the Companions and scholars, is something that cannot be found anywhere else.

The soul of my soul... Sheikh Yasir Qadhi asked the Shaheed Khaled Nabhan, may Allah have mercy on him, what advice he would give to Muslims in America earlier this year at the ICNA annual convention in Baltimore. His answer is incredibly powerful, yet so typical of the people of Gaza. Addressing a Muslim American crowd, mere miles from the White House and the source of Israel's weaponry massacring his people including his grandchildren - the soul of his soul - there was no call for advocacy, nor for more protests. No appeal for phone banks or email campaigns. No requests for donations or food. Just a remarkable clarity, amid the rubble and darkness, on what our mission in this world is. Even with quite literally everything falling apart around him, the one thing that never did shake is his faith. Perhaps the souls of his soul returned to her Creator so soon to awaken a billion other souls deep in slumber. May we take heed.

The Founding Fathers envisioned a nation rooted in freedom and religious tolerance, where all faiths belong. Yet nowadays, people claiming to "serve America" are trying to end religious freedom in the country. When they say Islam has no place here, they are not speaking for America.

A sitting member of Congress should not be fearmongering about his own Muslim constituents or painting ordinary families and masājid as a civilizational threat. Rep. Keith Self has publicly tied his rhetoric to the so-called “Sharia-Free America Caucus,” which he co-launched with Rep. Chip Roy, and has repeatedly framed “Sharia” as incompatible with American life, language civil rights groups say fuels anti-Muslim hostility rather than addressing any real constitutional issue. The deeper issue is not “protecting America,” but how elected officials normalize suspicion toward Muslim communities and place them in danger by treating their very presence as something to expose or contain.

It was a genuine honor for me to be able to speak a few months ago to our elder, our senior, our role model, Khaled Nabhan, who was brutally and unnecessarily murdered by the Apartheid Regime of Israel today. I was able to tell him that he has impacted tens of millions of people around the world, and that I myself have given shahada to people who told me they embraced Islam because of his video and the dignity and faith that he exuded. His response was, 'Alhamdulillah who has used me to service His Deen.' Today, Allah reunited his soul with the 'soul of his soul', his granddaughter. May Allah deal with his murderers in this world before the next, and may we see the end of the Apartheid and genocide regime swiftly! PS. If you seem me flustered and overcome with emotion in the video, it's because I was: it was overwhelming to hear him and speak to him - alhamdulillah we were able to broadcast him live at the conference and I'm trying to get that video as well.
