Unless you're into bikes you may not have seen this style of belt before. This is a Gates Carbon Drive. It uses a central channel in the belt to keep it centered on the sprockets. The belt itself is reinforced with carbon fiber strands & strong enough to replace a chain. No maintenance, no noise, no lubrication necessary. There's a very slight hit in efficiency compared to a clean, fresh chain, but once dirt & higher power enter the picture, they prove superior in this regard. Gates offers many different sprocket designs & sizes for different applications, which is a good thing because they are not easy to machine compared to standard timing pulleys. I tried to make an off-the-shelf design work in this project, but sometimes you just have to go full custom, and that's exactly what I've done here. Can't wait to share more details of what this is when we get further along... Anyway, if you have an application that you're considering using a chain or timing belt and need a low profile setup, be sure to give this system a look over. It has many positives in its favor.

I wonder how the first person figured this process out? > grab a part that's loaded with sharp burrs > stick it in a chamber filled with gas > ignite that puppy > boom > your entire part is smoothly & accurately deburred, inside & out. Thermal deburring (also known as TEM, or explosive deburring) folks. Yet another method of making stuff smooth. I have to try it. (video clips by Extrude Hone)

I'm an engine fan. And a 2-stroke fan. And a crossplane V8 fan. I've always wondered what a 2-stroke crossplane V8 engine might sound like. If it's anything like this model created in the Engine Simulator (which is pretty accurate), I am so in. (video footage from Noffie @ yt)

Stumbling upon a novel idea, even if it's not exactly new, is always exciting. Came across this virtual rolling contact joint when researching spherical rolling joints. Created by IRIM LAB KOREATECH & genius in its simplicity, this joint consists of three pivoting linkages that allows for 2 DOF in roll & pitch. They then integrated it into a robotic arm, complete with a driveshaft passing through the center. Has anyone ever used one of these designs in practice?

On the complete opposite end of things... If you have plastic or rubber parts, you can use liquid nitrogen or dry ice to freeze the burrs & flashing, then tumble or blast them away. All other surfaces are left pristine & clean. Cryogenic deburring. So cool. (video clips from Cold Jet Australia Pty)

V7? Inline 9? V11? Inline 23?? So many wild engine combos out there you never see (or hear). I rounded up some interesting (& potentially possible) inline & vee simulations in this vid.
