The plight of 13-year old Beryl Akumu Juma reached us at the Kenya High Commission in Kampala, and we have not wasted a minute in finding and placing her in our safe custody. We have reached her family back in Kisumu County, and arrangements have been made for Beryl to be reunited with them. Priority now turns to returning Beryl to school and securing her a safe home environment.

I have formally commenced my tour of duty as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary/Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kenya to the United Nations Office in Nairobi (UNON) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Following the presentation of my credentials, I held talks with UNON Director General H.E Zainab Hawa Bangura and met staff of the Kenyan Mission to UNON & UNEP. Nairobi is one of only four UN headquarters in the world, alongside New York, Geneva and Vienna. It is the only United Nations hq in Africa and the only one in the whole of the global south. UNON services 86 UN agencies across 166 countries, has the largest complex of all UN offices in the world, and is the fastest growing duty station. As the home to UNEP and UN-Habitat, Nairobi is also the environment capital of the world. My focus is to help strengthen the UN presence in Kenya/Africa/Global South, and ensure the people of Kenya feel the presence of the United Nations in real terms. I left an indelible mark at my last public duty station. My enduring legacy that has transformed Kenyan sports includes getting FIFA to lift the ban on Kenyan football, securing the rights to host CHAN 2025 and AFCON 2027 in East Africa, triggering a deliberate, intentional and structured talent nurturing pipeline, and initiating unprecedented sports infrastructure upgrading programme that includes rehabilitation of Kasarani, Nyayo, Bukhungu, Kipchoge Keino and Kanduyi Stadia and construction of the spanking new futuristic Talanta Sports City. I also curated the transformative World Bank funded NYOTA project to empower the youth of Kenya. Kenyans should expect a similar midas touch at UNON and UNEP, delivered by intellectual nous, relentless hands-on focus, unflinching attention to detail, all encompasing teamwork and integrity. MY ROOTS, MY LOVE💖 Uganda, the Pearl of Africa, is home to me in every sense. This festive season I packed my clan with a couple of the children’s buddiez in the family ride, and zoomed off on a truly refreshing road trip from Port Victoria on the shores of Lake Victoria in Kenya all the way to Entebbe on the Ugandan side of Africa’s biggest and the world’s second largest fresh water lake. The road took us through Busia, to Tororo, Jinja (my birthplace and the source of the great River Nile) and Kampala City (the stomping grounds of my beloved late parents Peter and Agatha). We spent a day and a night in each of these beautiful towns, with three nights in Entebbe being the highlight of the excursion. It was a delight for each one of the 9 of us. We love UGANDA🇺🇬 in similar manner as we love KENYA🇰🇪 and deeply cherish AFRICA. #TembeaAfrica

Today I inspected the ongoing construction of the new Talanta Sports City at Jamhuri Grounds on Ngong Road in Nairobi. Pleased with the pace of work and confident the ultra-modern 60,000 capacity football-customised stadium will be ready on time, by December 2025. On completion, Talanta Sports City will be peerless in this region, and will proudly be among the crème de la crème of sporting arenas in the world. We are proud to deliver Kenya's first major stadium in 40 years, since Kasarani and Nyayo in the early 1980s. I also inspected upgrading works at Kasarani and Nyayo.

KARIBU KENYA MHESHIMIWA RAIS! Early this morning at Karura Forest I received and joined H.E Cai-Göran Alexander Stubb, President of Finland, for a 5 km morning run with select Kenyan athletes. Environment CS Deborah Barasa, Forestry PS Mugambi and other senior government officials were in attendance. The United Nations Diplomatic District is nestled right amidst this environmental gem of Karura. #finland
