In his response to this viral scene, Matt Walsh offers a thoughtful and badly needed critique of the claim that women are always victims of abortion. Matt Walsh rightly observes that while Pro-Life organizations tend to claim that all women are victims of abortion, there are many women who willfully and maliciously murder their own preborn children, in some cases against the wishes of the father. As noted by Matt Walsh, many Pro-Life leaders are concerned about political optics, but in the process have downplayed or ignored the harsh realities of abortion. This includes the fact that many women, who are uniquely designed by God to cherish and nurture their children, are willfully murdering their children for selfish and depraved reasons. If we want to actually end abortion, we need to ensure that murdering anyone is illegal for everyone, including both the men and the women who willfully murder their own preborn children. Pro-Life leaders who reject this basic position are acting inconsistently with their professed belief that preborn babies are image-bearers of God who should be treated with the same dignity and value as every other person.

Christopher Dodson, co-director and general counsel of the North Dakota Catholic Conference, testified this morning against legislation in North Dakota that would equally protect preborn babies under the law. Speaking immediately after a Democratic state lawmaker who also opposed the bill, Dodson claimed that women are categorically second victims of abortion and that punishing abortionists is sufficient. Dodson acknowledged that women who have abortions are not "without fault," but said that "compassion, not desire to punish, should be our guide and our response to her." He referred lawmakers to a letter signed three years ago by several dozen Pro-Life establishment organizations opposing any legislation that could criminalize women who willfully choose to have abortions. Leaders of the North Dakota Catholic Conference, as well as other Pro-Life entities such as North Dakota Family Alliance Legislative Action, joined with none other than Planned Parenthood to oppose this legislation, which would simply apply the same protections that already protect born people from murder and assault to protect preborn people as well. As we have repeatedly seen in countless states, Pro-Life establishment organizations, including those which claim the name of Christ, are working alongside Planned Parenthood and other proponents of child sacrifice to keep abortion legalized in our land.
