They barged into the Assamese couple’s home at 03:00 AM. They didn’t just loot them, but brutally assaulted them with rods. The wife, Ruprekha Bhuyan was in coma for 16 days. Assam: 7,000 people gathered inside the Maa Kamakhya Temple on September 22, claiming authority over the temple under the leadership of ‘Anant Maharaj’. With these people, he claimed authority saying the priests are only performing puja on their behalf. Anant Maharaj claimed Narakasur was not a demon but a god. Instead, he demeaned Shri Krishna saying he was cursed by 16,000 Gopinis from the Northeast. This Maharaj claims to be a descendant of the Koch-Rajbongshi King, who once ruled over present-day Guwahati. Koch King Naranarayan rebuilt the Kamakhya Mandir after the Mughals had destroyed it. Anant Maharaj is a Rajya Sabha MP from West Bengal under the BJP. He has made several controversial statements including questioning the role of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose during the Independence Movement. The history of the Koch with the Kamakhya Temple is rich - following the saga of rebuilding. During their reign, the head priest of the Kamakhya Temple was Kendukalai.
