We have 88 out of 150 Republican members in the Texas House—a clear majority. Our caucus rules, party rules, and platform mandate that we elect a Speaker—a very powerful position—from the Republican Party. Unfortunately, a few power-hungry Republicans are joining the Democrats to elect a Speaker who will be beholden to the Democrat Party. The party will not back down.
