EPFO meeting yesterday has announced some alarming provisions: 1) Full withdrawal in case of unemployment will happen after 12 months vs 2 months currently 2) Full withdrawal of pension after 36 months rather than 2 months currently 3) 25% of your EPF, kept in EPF always!

One of the worst effects of the wage ceiling under EPF being increased from 15,000 to 25,000 is that a lot more people will be sucked into the employees pension scheme or EPS. This was earlier not applicable if your basic wage was above 15,000 & you joined service after 2014. More money in EPS means either: 1) You withdraw before 10 yrs service & get no interest on it (interest free loan to govt) 2) Don't withdraw for 10 years & your money gets locked till age 58 effectively

Hotels in Colombo are cheap for Indians. Probably due to the Sri Lankan rupee depreciation against our rupee & my off peak travel timing. I booked this one (Granbell) for INR 6.8k per night. It was absolutely worth it. A 5-star in Mumbai will normally cost > 12k with tax

Another great deal in South Bombay! The YWCA International Centre near Oval Maidan. Spacious double room with a balcony. 4.4k with breakfast & dinner incl. Open to all. YWCA = Young Women's Christian Association. I'm not a woman or Christian (young, maybe) but I could stay. 😅

A year ago I left journalism to start thefynprint, betting that Indian investors needed to look beyond India. Tomorrow is two years since the Nifty peaked. Nifty 50: down 6% in a year S&P 500: up 27% in a year, in rupees The objections haven't changed. My answers (check video):

The day Groww lists at a premium, BSE quietly reveals the REAL number of RIAs (see video). The story: 1) Indians want free trading & MFs paid by F&O, loans etc. 2) They don't want to pay for advice. That must come free from influencers. Yes, MFDS exist & give advice. For now.
