Reporter: Isn’t there concern that this slippery slope to socialism inevitably ends up as full-blown communism? AOC: I mean, no. I think that’s very silly. We can’t even raise the minimum wage. Do they really think communism is going to happen? No. They’re trying to scare people because they don’t want us talking about the fact that we all have a right to health care. So they want to call everything they don’t like communist because if people actually wake up to the fact that their elected officials are screwing them over when they get here, they’re going to realize they deserve better and that health care as a right isn’t crazy. They want to call this stuff communist because they don’t want us to realize that the rest of the developed world has guaranteed health care. They want to call it communist because they don’t want you to know that Germany, Italy, the UK, Canada—everybody else—has it better than us, and we spend the most money for the worst care in the developed world.

Mamdani: In a win for every ice cream lover across New York City, we will work with the state to do away with the frozen dessert permit that requires restaurants to seek out a superfluous second permit for what they’re already doing: serving food. No more treat-sploitation, as we say. Right now, barbershops need three licenses to cut hair: one to be a barber, one to own the shop, and one from the city on top of both. The state of affairs is frankly anti-fade, and we will not stand for it, which is why we will work with the state to streamline these licenses as well. And to the bingo enthusiasts out there, for too long, the potential earnings of a hot streak at bingo have been capped by arcane rules that no longer reflect how the game is actually being played. With OPEN, DCWP will remove unnecessary regulations, including prize limits. I was on an airplane watching… what is that movie? The one about aliens with a linguist? Arrival. With Amy Adams. I was on a plane. I was literally going to a rally or something like that. This was a while ago. And I was watching Arrival on the plane. I had no idea that it was that emotional. And I don’t even cry like that at movies. On the plane, sobbing, dude. I had to put sunglasses on. Then the movie ends as the plane is landing. They go, “Bing bong,” whatever—seatbelt sign, you can unplug it.
