Rockets are hard. Flying robots are harder. Sensing, compute, and software stack that parallels a self-driving car, but three orders of magnitude smaller in size and weight. Plus the full gamut of aerospace complexity spanning aerodynamics, thermals, vibration. Very high flight volumes, low and close to the ground, in and around obstacles. And you have to fight for every gram.

Good news: San Mateo weather was horrendous on Thursday, with heavy rain and gusts up to 60MPH. When the going gets tough, Madison Taylor and our awesome Product Integrity team DIAL UP our automated flight testing, not down. We had an overall success rate of 167/168 flights in terrible conditions in one day from our Skydio Dock Hive. The single crash landing was the first we’ve had in real-world conditions (wind was way above our recommended flight spec). We’re looking into it now and believe there are further SW improvements that would mitigate the issue. [Musical credit to Riffusion, co-founded by our former VP Autonomy Hayk Martiros

The robots are here and they fly. Today at Ascend, we announced: • R10 - a breakthrough indoor drone that uses AI and autonomy to get into the most dangerous places so people don’t have to. • F10 - a prototype Robotic Takeoff and Land (RTOL) drone that will unlock long-range, long-endurance, high-speed missions. It will eventually put all the landmass on Earth within reach of an autonomous, Docked drone. Imagine having all of our transportation and energy networks instantly accessible, or being able to get eyes on scene for every emergency, any natural disaster, immediately, anywhere. • Continued evolution of our AI software to make X10 multi-drone native so one operator can command many drones, and the robots work for us rather than the other way around. • Myriad other improvements to our hardware and software to make them more capable, more reliable, and more useful, for more people. This is a special moment as drones transition from being useful tools to critical infrastructure for our most critical industries. It is an immense challenge - and a true joy - to develop this technology and deploy it in service of the most important customers in the world. And we’ve now got a whole Family of Flying Robots to meet the need. I’m so proud of our team at Skydio for pulling off the impossible. You can watch the full keynote in the link below, or just check out these sick highlights of the Cybertruck-mounted robot arm snatching F10 out of the air, R10 flying through <10” gaps with ease, and X10s going off out of Docks like fireworks.

The U.S. Army just made its largest single-vendor sUAS order in history: $52M for nearly 3,000 Skydio X10Ds - high precision, day/night, GPS-denied and EW resilient, super reliable ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance). This kind of capability used to cost $ M per drone. Now it’s 100x cheaper thanks to $ MMM of self-funded R&D by Skydio, combined with our civilian market scale in the tens of thousands of units per year, where we compete - and win - versus Chinese drones (the same drones that our adversaries will be using in every modern conflict). X10D was sharpened by hard lessons in Ukraine and close iterative feedback with our soldiers through initiatives like the Army’s Transformation in Contact. It is the perfect “hunter” to find targets for “killer” one-way attack drones and other munitions to strike, a tactic we’ve already seen in Ukraine. Congratulations to the PAE Maneuver Air on listening to their end users and doubling down on what's working. We are proud to bring world-leading drones to our warfighters and committed to doing so with unmatched value.

Early but awesome trend we're seeing is Drone as First Responder expanding beyond the police department to also serve fire, buildings, local utilities, and more. Congratulations to Fort Collins Police Chief Jeff Swoboda for a great start on an amazing program. If you want to help build flying robot infrastructure that saves lives, money, and time for our communities, come work at Skydio.
