The Armenian diaspora, along with paid supporters like Luis Moreno Ocampo, has launched a campaign to undermine Azerbaijan’s hosting of #COP29 later this year. What’s particularly interesting is that the Armenian government itself officially supported Azerbaijan’s candidacy to host COP29 by withdrawing its own bid. Yet here we are, facing a campaign against us for hosting an event they initially backed. Luis Moreno Ocampo, in his frequent posts—shared almost religiously—calls for the release of so-called Armenian hostages. However, he curiously avoids naming a single individual. For days, I asked for these names in the comments under his posts. Not only did he ignore my legitimate question, but he also blocked me. That speaks volumes. This isn’t about a personal cause but rather a paid campaign aimed at smearing Azerbaijan’s name on the international stage. The reason he doesn’t publish the names of these “hostages” is simple: once those names are revealed, people can research and discover the truth—that these individuals are not hostages but war criminals. Take Araik Harutyunyan, for example, who is currently facing trial in Azerbaijan. He openly took responsibility for the bombings of Ganja, which claimed the lives of innocent civilians, including women and children. These bombings, which targeted civilian-populated areas far from any military zones, were conducted under his direct orders for two weeks. Harutyunyan doesn’t deny it—he admits it in this video. And Ganja wasn’t the only city; other parts of Azerbaijan were also hit by these attacks, all miles away from the battlefield. This is the kind of criminal that Luis Moreno Ocampo is defending, and it’s no wonder he avoids mentioning these names—because once people know, they’ll see who they truly are. There are no Armenian hostages in Azerbaijan, only war criminals who are being rightfully tried for their crimes.
