Another one i really like. Forcing athletes to move laterally like this is a a cheap trick to get: 1) focus on getting frontside of carrier 2) stay square to defend the line 3) big focus on the hit and chase because can’t just sprint through the bag.

Drill design fundamental. If trying to work on something, instead of reducing it down to just do that thing, challenge it. Over last two years I have used jumps and hops to force “high hips” and challenge dropping quickly, doing so also emphasis low by forcing high start.

One my favorite parts of the ⁦Riddell Sports⁩ ⁦Richie Gray⁩ bags is the depth and density lets you go full hit. Even on a lower body tackle -which I often stand in and hold for- really reduces worry about Charlie horse and can practice the skill.

I’ve posted Sam Underhill numerous times. The one thing that always jumps out to me is his “postural strength”. When you watch, look at is body position and “spine aligned”. Never changes. Even with other giant people running into him.

Hard. Fast. But predictable. Great way to limit training risk. To me, shields and mats are about expressing power while managing contact load. What i see most is the runner not making it easy, but not trying to win. Giving just the right weight to it.

I love and have used this set/up for WRs and contested catches. If D teaches to play through hands expect it and put the obstruction in that space & work securing the catch. Using the noodle and keeping the human out of the way helps avoid a silly land on foot rolled ankle.

Some contact conditioning. The drive is slight interrupted by the D/U but that adds a nice little condo element. Also notice the tight set up even as you get tired. Plus the simple tap to ensure correct shoulder and side and smooth drill.
