Baka Women Transform River Water Into Rhythm in Ancient Drumming Tradition. Deep in the rainforests of Central Africa, music is not limited to instruments made of wood or metal. For the women of the Baka people, the river itself becomes an instrument. Among the Baka, who live primarily in the forests of Cameroon, Gabon, and the Republic of the Congo, women practice a remarkable musical tradition known as water drumming.
