African American revolutionary Malcolm X was assassinated on this... day in 1965. Here’s Malcolm on whether he fears being assassinated: ‘No I don’t. I’m a man who believes that I died 20 years ago. I live like a man who is dead already. I have no fear whatsoever of anybody, or anything.’ •Malcolm X was under constant surveillance by the FBI. •He was also monitored by the NYPD’s Bureau of Special Services •The FBI ran COINTELPRO, a program designed to disrupt Black nationalist groups and civil rights organisations. •The FBI had informants inside the Nation of Islam and there is documented evidence of efforts to create divisions and paranoia within Black political movements. Several members of Malcolm X’s family believe that the US government was involved in his assassination, or at least covered it up. Evidence was withheld in the original trial, and two of the men convicted of the murder of Malcolm X were later exonerated. The US government had every motive to kill Malcom X, and ensure that one of the greatest black revolutionary voices in the history of the US was silenced.show more
