Jimmy Kimmel claims "We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it" and "This is not how an adult grieves the murder of somebody he [Trump] called a friend. This is how a 4-year-old mourns a gold fish, okay."

Jon Stewart interviewed Utah Gov. Spencer Cox last night (the first conservative/GOP guest on a late night show in 13 months) and wondered why he didn't just force people to bake the cake, "e can't fire you but we will still view you as aberrant and we will enshrine that in the law because it does—if you flip that and you say to somebody, 'I will not bake a cake because you believe in Jesus for your wedding,' I think you can see that that is a contemptuous position. And so asking a group that is traditionally less righted to accept a bargain for their humanity still strikes me fundamentally as—I don't want to say contemptible but boy, there are some synonyms that are hard for me—itis a hard one to swallow as a victory. Does that resonate in any way?"

CNN did a segment on Freddy, the German soccer tourist, and sports analyst Christine Brennan claimed "I saw some conversation, Wolf and Pamela, about how the rest of the world is looking at the United States and feeling that we are—it's a foreboding image and that we are inhospitable...But how wonderful again, that sports can bring people here and show people that the United States and you know, the South is welcoming a German tourist in a way we would never have anticipated" Who is "we"?

Former CNN Pentagon correspondent Barbara Starr returned to the network last night to suggest Trump's flight out of Turkey was illegal, "Because my question is this: If it was not safe for the president to be on that flight, how was it safe for the media to be on that flight and to be lied to, not to be told the truth? Yet, again, to be lied to. Because the thing is, it was the U.S. military flying the plane. The U.S. military does not put civilians unknowingly at risk. The president was gone; he wasn't being threatened anymore, presumably, but the civilians on board were still under threat, and the U.S. military under orders flew that plane. Somebody needs to tell me why that's a legal order. Because that's not what the U.S. military does."

Stephen Colbert says that he's feeling better not hosting a late night show because "the old gig as I remember it was that to be lowered like carbon rods into a radioactive pool every day. And then to be pulled out and put in front of a camera and to eradiate it back at the audience at a nonlethal rad level." Jimmy Kimmel agrees, "That's right. That's exactly the job description." That's only the job description if you want it to be (1/2)

David Letterman tells Stephen Colbert, "I will say, and I have every right to be pissed off so I will be pissed off a little bit—because this theater, you folks wouldn’t be in this theater if it weren't for me and Stephen wouldn't be here if it weren't for me and we rebuilt this theater and then Stephen came and I look at this—it's like the Bellagio, but listen, what is wrong here?" and then says "As we all understand you can take a man's show but you can't take a man's voice, so that's the good news." The New York Times platformed Hasan Piker on their "The Opinions" podcast to promote theft as a form of protest. The Mao fan said, "Yeah, I’m pro-piracy all the way, like, across the board. Would you pirate a car? Yes. You know, if you could." He also says he would steal from the Louvre if he could, "I think it’s cool. We’ve got to get back to cool crimes like that: bank robberies, right? Stealing priceless artifacts, things of that nature. I feel like that’s way cooler than the 7,000th new cryptocurrency scheme that people are engaging in." (1/2)

Not appreciating the irony of hosting a show in the United States, Rosie O'Donnell kicks off her week of guest hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live by saying, "You know, I've been living in Ireland for the past two years because of Mango Mussolini. I read that Project 2025 and said, 'Got to get myself out of here, you know?'"

Seth Meyers (with the help of a Jen Psaki clip) joins Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert in not knowing about military surf and turf meals, "They spent $15 million on steak in one month. Who are you? Sterling Cooper Draper and Pryce? If you're gonna eat that much steak, you better have come up with a new campaign for lucky strike. No wonder Hegseth always looks miserable. He's 24/7 meat constipated. That's the face of a man war fighting with his colon." (1/2)

Jimmy Kimmel guest host Rosie O'Donnell hypes "As I told you this week, I have a little 13-year-old with autism who is also non-binary. Non-binary, and they told me that, and I asked them to explain what non-binary was. And they went, 'aghh, mom! When you're not a girl and you're not a boy! And by the way, my pronouns are they/them, and I'd like them respected.'” She also recalls "I got a tattoo of the world 'They' right there on my wrist. You know? So that they would know I care and I'm trying. And I was sure they were going to be touched. And they didn't give two [bleep]s. Could not care less. I go home, and sure enough, I say 'she' and they look up from their iPad and go, 'What a shock, your tattoo isn't working.'" (1/2)

The energy isn't around, like, “We shouldn't have prisons or borders.” The energy is around a belief that their economic populism...It is about strengthening a safety net for a country that has suffered too long overvaluing capital and money and undervaluing labor and work! The Atlantic's Annie Lowrey tells PBS that "Part of the reason that we do not have universal, simple benefit systems (UBI, Single-payer health care, ect.) in this country, like some of our peer countries have, is because we were creating those programs often during Jim Crow. And we wanted to have ways to get benefits to some people, but not others." Ironically, Lowrey was on to lament excess bureaucracy, but all of her proposed solutions elsewhere have just been "more regulations"

Former ESPN talking head Pablo Torre says of the U.S. hockey women winning gold, "maybe there's the capacity for us to celebrate American dominance in a way that feels genuine as opposed to, you know, a series of lies to prop up a certain administration." Joe Scarborough adds, "I will say how hilarious that the sort of MAGA, online MAGA World were celebrating Alysa Liu's gold medal without a hint of any irony. Celebrating the immigrant" as Eugene Robinson agrees, "Oops. Yes, they you know, they're celebrating this. You know, “we're supposed to hate this, but we can't hate it because USA, USA.”

Jimmy Kimmel tried to clean up his comments about Markwayne Mullin being a former plumber, but he tried to have it both ways. First he doubled down ignoring Mullin's management experience with his plumbing company "[Trump's] apple polishers are all in a tizzy because I made light of the fact that his new head of Homeland Security, Markwayne Mullin, before he was a senator, was a plumber. And now he's the head of Homeland Security. Which is not necessarily the kind of resume you might hope for, for the person in charge of protecting us from terrorism" Later, he insists it has nothing to do with plumbers and is just about his ideas, "Let me make this very clear. I'm not upset that the head of Homeland Security used to be a plumber. I'm upset that he isn't still a plumber, okay?" Then why even mention the plumber aspect?

David Brooks reacts to the upcoming UFC fight at the White House, "I first thought of, like, who are the artists John F. Kennedy brought to the White House? It was like W.H. Auden, Robert Frost, Jerome Robbins, Leonard Bernstein. And now we have got cage fighting. Don't anybody say America's in cultural decline." Jonathan Capehart adds "talk about degrading the culture. This is degrading the White House, degrading the people's house. And it's just unconscionable that this has happened."

Jimmy Kimmel guest host Jelly Roll closes out his week by responding to his critics, "But just because I watched a fight on TV, doesn't mean I support everything this administration does. Just like how hosting Jimmy Kimmel's show doesn't mean I have all of Jimmy Kimmel's politics. Sure, I lean left on some things. But like most folks, I'm pretty down the middle. I am a Christian. I am a country music singer. I'm a farmer. I'm a bow hunter. And most of the things I eat I prefer to get with a stick and a string. That's the truth. In fact, the second I leave here, I'm going elk hunting." (1/2)
